An explosion that destroyed 20 fireworks warehouses in China three months ago will probably dim night skies in the United States this Fourth of July.

Fireworks vendors said that because of the sudden shortage, fireworks like bottle rockets, ladyfingers and Roman candles, as well as mortars used in professional displays, will be hard to get, meaning many of the usual pyrotechnic extravaganzas across the country may have to be curtailed or even canceled.

Good. Maybe some folks will awaken to the fact that patriotism can mean more than blowing stuff up.

I see that HuffPo is busy at work again, helping out their Wall Street buddies, by contributing to yet another manufactured commodities crisis.

Heck of a job HuffPo.

You can't even buy fireworks in most Northeast States anyway.

with fascists in power, I'm not feeling like celebrating 'independence' day. I'll want some fireworks to celebrate when they meet justice in an international war crimes trial since our justice system is dead to justice anymore.

John Adams to his wife, Abigal, July 3,1776:

"The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not."

Yes, fireworks (Illuminations) are part and parcel of the celebration.

We have a lot more serious things to worry about than a shortage of fireworks. Bush and Cheney are still in Washington, ready to start another war, and the Republicans are blocking all serious legislation from getting through the Senate.

Good. I cant breathe when all that shit goes off and fills the air with pollutants. The smoke and haze hang around for days... Total pollution.

Too bad there was not a shortage of Fireworks in Vietnam and they could not have claimed an attack at the Gulf of Tonkin and started the Vietnam War.

If there is anything good about this, maybe there will be fewer people crippled, badly injured or killed in the USA this year by non-professional use of fireworks. To me in all states only licenced pros should be the only ones to handle any quanity of fireworks.

The only "sparkles" I want to see, is from Bush and Cheneys bare asses on hard cement, as the FEDS drag them by their heels to prison...

Can anyone afford fireworks besides the corporate fatcats?

I think you need to get a job if you cannot even consider buying a $3 pack of "snakes".
