Fighting back tears, Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., described by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., as Kennedy's closest friend in the Senate, insisted, "We're confident he's going to be back."
"Ted Kennedy is a man of tremendous courage, remarkable strength and powerful spirit," Bush said. "Our thoughts are with Senator Kennedy and his family during this difficult period."
Former JFK speechwriter Ted Sorenson, who has known Ted Kennedy for over 50 years, told MSNBC that "if anyone can recover from what faces him, he can."
