Geraldine Ferraro appeared on the Today show on Tuesday morning, re-affirming her assertion that the media has been sexist in its coverage of Hillary Clinton. Comparing media condemnation of racism and sexism, Ferraro said, "There is a real difference in this country. It is not okay to be racist. It is just not. It is almost acceptable to be sexist."

She pointed to media reaction after Clinton was heckled with "iron my shirt," in New Hampshire. "Suppose somebody at that Barack Obama rally said 'Shine my shoes.' The person would have been swamped by the media saying, what, are you a racist? Hillary barely saw press on this."

Talk about Hero to Zero ... Gerry's claim to fame is nopw for bringing racism to the Democrats this Decade.

What a terrible human being ... didn't she used to be someone? I just dislike bigotry in any flavor. Plus, she is just so damned bitter. America has treated her damned nice and she slaps back with bile.

Disgusting legacy. There's thousands of great woman who are liberals ... Gerry and Hillary are among the worst yet most vocal. Shameful. Yeah ... folks gather around and praise her for speaking her mind ... some did that for Adolph as well.

Lets purge the Party of those who employ racism for egotistical ends.

This woman has managed to undermine the progress made by women and african-americans. She even undermines the elderly by making them look out of touch with reality. (Wow - a 3 for 1 special!)

I honestly don't know what the hell happened to this woman.
A respected Congresswoman & the first female to be nominated to the Vice Presidency for a major party.
Did (does) she feel she & Mondale lost because of her gender? I doubt it. I think she knows that then the Democrats were faced with the insurmountable first wave of the Reagan Revolution.
Her whole involvement with the Clinton campaign this time seems so cynical. As if the Clintons's asked her to play the "bad cop" role. "Oh Gerry, come in quick, drop the race card, remind everyone that Obama is black & blacks get special privileges, drum up some white resentment & then get the hell out"
And now she realizes she misses the "fight" & the limelight. So she's criticizing one of the only black columnists of TNYT, Bob Herbert as being overly critical of Clinton & sexist to boot. No mention of other TNYT Clinton critics, Maureen Dowd, & Frank Rich
And this is now her legacy. A well respected ground breaker is now a bitter race baiter. Sad.

If Ferraro were for Obama and complaining about sexism too, you people would be gushing over her. She's done more for this country than all of you combined and you sit here whining about what a has-been she is.

I used to consider myself a feminist and fought through the sixties for equality for women. When my girlfriend was burning her bra, I was burning my draft card. After I worked for several women and volunteered for Barbara Boxer here in San Francisco. I learned that women are not ready for prime time and I will never again support any woman for a position of power. Far as I'm concerned, they should not have driver's licenses. Thanks to Hillary and Gerry for enlightening. They think men are against them and that it is our fault, so be it.

Please don't blame us all for Hillary's behavior. I'm a white professional woman old enough to remember bra burning and I am appalled by Hillary and her sidekick Geraldine. They have set the woman's movement back, but they do not represent even a majority of women.

We know there is sexism, and there is reverse sexism too - such as my husband deals with at work where men are afraid to so much as have a personal conversation with a woman because every once in awhile some crazy one decides to make something out of nothing. The phony charges of sexism hurt us because they are like the boy who cried wolf: they diminish the real instances of sexism which are truly becoming more rare.

Thanks for your comment. A woman already vetted - Governor Kathleen Sibelius of Kansas who is on the short list for VP - would set thing right for women, and partially rebuild what Hillary has destroyed for all women.

Lordie, another American hero bites the dust, a victim of petty thinking.

I didn't vote for Hillary in the primaries because she is a woman. I didn't vote for her because I don't admire her way of doing business (like a corpratist and hanging on too long to her love of war profiteering).

Gerry, your reputation is going down the drain because you are showing your willingness to clutch at straws on behalf of the wrong woman at the wrong time. Please woman, stop digging in that hole you have made.

ps: the above statement was made by a 60 yr old woman, who used to think highly of Gerry.

If sexism played a role in her loss then tell me how did she win all the states she did. I mean come on she is making excuses to why she is losing. She mismanaged her campaign. Did sexism play a part in her campaign's debt? Did sexism play a part in her campaign shifting advisers? I mean come on now, Barack is faced with racism all the time on his campaign trail. CNN showed pictures of his campaign offices being destroyed with hate messages on them. People wear shirts with monkeys in Georgia saying it's Obama. How about the extra security he has because he is getting death threats. Do you hear him crying about that. If she thinks sexism is tough now wait until General Election if she makes it. Ferrarro on Fox said it's okay that Sean Hannity dogs her because he just doesn't like her. What! I think that Hillary and Ferrarro thought that because she is a woman and a democrat., we were supposed to line up behind her because her name is Clinton. They were wrong. I don't like Hillary. She misrepresent herself. She is supposed to be a feminist and fight for women causes but then she sticks with a husband who cheated on her not once not twice but over 5 times. That is not a feminist. That to me showed weakness and acceptability to be done wrong. I am a woman and that is why I do not like Hillary.

I would like Ms Ferraro to explain her projected vote for McCain/Hagee and then name the women she would first send to jail for abortions.

Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro are giving ammunition to those sexists who say that women are sore losers.

Obama is not aware that he was "running" for president. After having everything handed to him and his wife for so long, he and his wife naturally believe they are simply being "given" the role of president and first lady. They were not aware that the little people, those "nasty voters" would have any say in the matter. Normal campaign rules don't apply to the Obamas, any more than normal admission requirements applied when they were getting into their tony Ivy League schools.

Possibly the sickest comment made this week on Huff. This is Gerry-Style Bitterness fully employed.

I am so sick that racism has been brought into this campaign but folks as this poster above have enabled and emboldened (a bushism, yeah ... sorry but had to say it) folks like Clinton and Ferraro who used it in desperation.

Barack and Michelle 'having everything handed to him and his wife for so long'??? Put the white sheet back on the bed and grow up please. Sickening.

Obama has been following all of the rules. The primary has always been a delegate contest, never an electoral contest, nor a popular vote contest, nor a Big State contest--but a delegate contest. Obama has ran an amazing campaign for someone inexperienced with a national campaign, much better than the ones (Clinton (her husband's), Edwards, Kucinich & others who have had experience with this before). It is Hillary Clinton who was expected to be given the role.

Wow, what a pathetic has-been. She's as bad as Hillary who doesn't know where Bill is at 3:00 a.m. any night. Maybe Geraldine keeps company with Hillary. They sure think alike.

In the 1970's there was a dreadful TV show called "Maude" about a angry old feminist that had a chip on her shoulder.

The more Mrs. Ferraro complains the more she reminds me of Maude.

PS: One guy holding up a sign is a lot less offensive than thousands of "uneducated whites" voting against Obama because he is black.

So if the sexist attitudes have prevented Hillary Clinton from winning the democratic primaries and caucuses, how would she be the stronger candidate to win the general election? Is she suggesting that Democrats are more sexists than Republicans and Independents?

Oh no, Bill Clinton is back at it - wait until you read his interview with People's magazine out this Friday. I can't believe that I ever liked him as President. He has lost all the admiration and respect that I once held for him.
