Lieberman's Stepson: I'm Voting For Obama

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 05/31/08 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:35 PM ET

Lieberman

There's one less Democrat listening to Sen. Joe Lieberman. Rabbi Ethan Tucker, the senator's step son, offered up his opinion on the difficulties facing Obama in reaching out to the Jewish community:

Tucker, 32, the biological son of Lieberman's wife, Hadassah, opines that an age split is apparent within the Jewish community in attitudes about Obama (as has also been shown in the overall Democratic constituency). Tucker, as paraphrased by reporter Jodi Kantor, asserts that younger Jews "have grown up in diverse settings and are therefore less likely to be troubled by Mr. Obama's associations than their elders."

So where does Rabbi Tucker fall on Obama, whose foreign policy bona fides were bashed by his stepfather in a recent editorial? Actually, he's backing Obama. Apparently, Obama's associations aren't a problem for him:

"Rabbi Tucker said he had given money to Mr. Obama and would vote for him in the fall. 'If association was the litmus test of identity, everyone would be a hopeless mishmash of confusion, or you'd have no friends,' he said."

While our simple minded media rarely reports on it, the people if Israel are not monolithic right wingers. There is a huge sentiment there for a peaceful, 2 state solution that abandons almost all of the settlements, and a majority in the middle. Just like in the US, during times of terrorism and fear, the majority of the middle swings to the right. And they are getting the same result AMerica got by being frightened into re-electing Bush.

America's religious right supports the Israeli right, because the Hagee types need Israel to hold on to the west bank for the end times to come. Joe Liberman willingly accepts their support because they are pro Israel. How they can ignore the "convert or die" deal that is part o of the end times baffles me.

Lieberman always was a republican in sheeps clothes. The only reason why his constituents looked the other way when they voted for him, was because he brought the pork home for his state. That's all they cared about. And Israel never had to make peace as long as he was in the senate. Not that it will change when the saviour is President. He wil try to enrich his pockets during his one time chance,as President, just like everybody else did.

Vets for Freedom is a swiftboating group now attacking Barack Obama with a nasty smear ad suggesting that he would put America's enemies first. Apparently, John McCain approves -- he calls the group a "wonderful organization."

In addition four of his campaign officials are connected with the group: Senators Lindsay Graham and Joe Lieberman, both campaign co-chairman, also both sit on the Vets for Freedom board of advisors. The group's executive director, Pete Hegseth, is on McCain's Virginia steering committee along with the group's treasurer, Wade Zirkle.

All four men are in violation of McCain's recently announced conflict of interest policy, which states: "No person with a McCain Campaign title or position may participate in a 527 or other independent entity that makes public communications that support or oppose any presidential candidate."

Earlier this month, the campaign asked GOP consultant Craig Shirley to leave the campaign because of the same sort of conflict. If McCain also asks these four men to leave the campaign, the challenge for him will be to explain he lavishly praised as a "wonderful organization" as recently as April 8.

McCain's praise for Vets for Freedom came at a rally staged for the media. At the rally, McCain was introduced by David Bellavia, a Vets for Freedom co-founder and candidate for Congress in New York's 26th district. In his introduction, Bellavia likened Barack Obama to Tiger Words, bringing a big smile to McCain.

Lieberman is a traitor to the Democratic party. I suppose he is holding on for the position of "Presidential Whisperer and interpretor"...Shiites from Sonnies, Insurgents from Terrorists. What will McCain do without him when he can't tell the difference between leaven bread and tortillas?

Jewish, 62, CT and voted for Joe the second and third times as he was the Dem candidate. First time he ran against Weicker I voted for Lowell. Always have detested him. I campaigned for Lamont, hard.

His stepson sounds like a very smart guy. A far more admirable man than his mother's husband. They must hate one another.

This is the Democratic nomination race in microcosm: young people vs. old women.

Dangerous to generalize...I know plenty of "old women" like myself that would never vote for Clinton!

Do not believe everything you hear or see in the media.

Out of about 20 in my group, 19 for Obama , one for the "hill"

Responsibility has to be taken by the white southern man who is having the biggest problem.
Old women are intelligent enough to understand what McSame would mean in Roe vs. Wade,
and the Supreme court.

It was a (bad) joke, suggesting Lieberman's stepson was the young person, and Lieberaman the....

A stepson falls farther from the tree than a son perhaps ever could. That is a good thing in this case. Although Giuliani’s children seemed to be enlightened as well in their positioning away from that tree.

Good for Rabbi Tucker. His stepfather is a disgrace.
03:41 PM on 05/26/2008
A non-issue, they probably hate each other anyway. Thats all the comment I have.
02:45 PM on 05/26/2008
Did anyone watch RECOUNT on HBO? Lieberman should have retired out of a sense of embarrassment by now.
04:34 PM on 05/24/2008
Wow! This is a BIG news story and the other news services missed it! I'm certain a LOT of people will rethink their positions now.
03:20 PM on 05/26/2008
Actually, this story is interesting. There appears to be a huge generational split within the Democratic party. This is another example of that split, but looking at the Jewish community in particular. What is it about the 45 and under age group that makes them break so overwhelmingly for Obama? Why are older voters breaking for Clinton? These are interesting questions, and the answers might provide insight into the future of the Democratic party.

I bet Lieberman had no idea that his step-son was an elitist, black, muslim terrorist. I can just picture the pained crying: "Where did I go wrong?!?!"
