Brad Pitt and Angelina have been in the South of France for some time, relaxing with their kids and attending the Cannes Film Festival while Angelina rides out her pregnancy with twins. And they now have a piece of Provence to call their own. Update: They actually just signed a three-year lease and have moved in.

The pair and the four children have been staying at Paul Allen's villa, and have been photographed going on various helicopter trips in recent weeks. Some say the trips were scouting outings, as they looked for a French home of their own. Now E! and the Daily Mail report that the Jolie-Pitt clan has plunked down $60 million on Chateau Miraval, near Aix-en-Provence. Other reports value the home, perhaps just rented, at $70 million. Tuesday the NY Post reported the Chateau Miraval purchase and priced the place that high.

Rent or buy, the chateau comes with a vineyard (Miraval website here), but that's the least of it. It also has 35 bedrooms, a lake, a pool, and a moat, claim E!. It is unclear if the home was ever on the market, but the Jolie-Pitts have reportedly tendered offers on homes that were not for sale/rent before.

They will have plenty of famous friends nearby. U2's Bono and the Edge have bases in the South of France, as does Johnny Depp.

X marks the spot on the google map of the village Le Val, home of Chateau Miraval:

Okay, this is really annoying. Yeah, they're celebrities. But they also do more for charities and the poor than I've seen out of 95% of celebrities. They don't just do a commercial to advertise that a country's in trouble. They go to the country, live in a hut for a while, get their hands dirty, and they throw in tons of money to boot.

Brad LIVED in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to supervise the building of houses for folks. These people are hard-core charity types, and have devoted their lives to helping people. It's like, they do movies so they can make enough money to use for charities or something.

I don't idolize them. I just plain old like them. They're not perfect people by any stretch, but they're using their celebrity for good. And yes, they take the opportunity to make money when they can. But what are they doing with that money? HELPING folks.

I don't begrudge them living lavishly. They've done more for others in their lives than any one of us on this message board will. Now they've got kids and a family and they want to relax and actually ENJOY some of their hard-earned cash.

Go do something and get rich and help a bunch of folks before you start complaining about these two.

Um, Fishwater----in case you hadn't heard, Brad Pitt AND Angelina Jolie have sunk hundreds of thousands of their own money and many millions of $$$$ they raised from philanthropic sources to help restore New Orleans. They rented a home and lived there for many months, so Brad could oversee the building of "green" housing for the displaced and Katrina-homeless. Please take time to inform yourself before you make such vapid comments.
Being adopted myself, I think what the Jolie-Pitts have done with their wealth and their lives is simply extraordinary. Angie isn't running around in Manolos doing B movies and in the gossip mags every time you open one, and Brad isn't getting arrested for DUI's, unlike a scary majority of celebs in this country. They set a lofty example not just for other celebrity but for all of us as well. You'd do well to emukate them.

They have heaps of cash
They have a lot of kids & do a LOT of charity work
They will hire a LOT of local people to care for that place & to keep it in gorgeous condition

The Horror.

why are people bitching about it?

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA how much it costs to keep these cultural & historic locations in good condition? I was in Versailles last Fall & there was BLOODY GRAFFITI in the Hall of Mirrors... carved into the mirrors & people had pried off gilt mirror clips
...& it was restored just the previous year

I say, if they wanna restore the place, maintain it - LET THEM
Would you rather it crumbled, or the French gov't had to cut back on something else?
maybe you'd rather a Developing Nation's dictator bought it?
maybe a terrorism-supporting, slave-owning Saudi prince?

Hopefully, they'll open it to the Public periodically; but, they don't strike me as being BAD for the community, their children or that property

SO QUIT BITCHING PEOPLE, you can't make everyone live the way you want

I hate it when Liberals start piling up the tinder for witchburnings-or sharpening the guillotine- because they decide everyone has to espouse every value or idea that flutters through their own heads

I'm a Humanist Liberal, but I'm not a liberal freak who makes Conservatives look like they respect privacy & personal choice more than I do

One has to wonder when a couple like this who are so sensitive to the lack that exists in our country and 3d world countries, choose for themselves to live such an over lavish life? Yes, they very publicly give back, but at heart, they still have the sensibilities of more, more more. And, because more is never enough for this mind set, I predict they'll be out of there looking for the next best thing, in under a year.

Yeah... they should live their lives entirely in sackcloth and ashes, eating bread crusts and gruel.

Whyever is it that this is a major news story?
11:47 PM on 05/29/2008
Thank goodness! I'm not a celebrity-phile, but I think it's great someone has the common sense to want to live and raise their children in the paradise-on-earth of southern France. I'm very happy for them, hope the birth goes well, and think she has done a lot of good with her public persona of raising awareness about the plight of third-world children. She earned it! She deserves it!

It's good to see a family able to afford their dreams. I hope and pray for happiness for them and I also hope and pray that I could give my family something that wonderful one day. May GOD continue to camp HIS Angels around them and theirs and me and mine!

You look at Brad and Angelina and you see two very happy real down to earth people. Good luck to them. THey are celebrities with class. Let them be models for behavior.

I'm so sick of this Brangelina nonsense...and that's what it is. Get a life and knock off the idolitry. I could care less what these two are doing...or any other Hollywood "icon's" for that matter. With all that's going on in the world...do we really have to get force fed this nonsense? I repeat...who cares?

Ironically, I think they are shedding a lot of light on important issues. You will always have celebrity, but you wont always have social awareness.

That said... I wonder how many carbon credits they had to buy to offset that Chateau.

Interesting. Nice pad, but I thought you couldn't own land in the EU, unless you were a citizen of the EU???

Or is it by country? Tried to look at buying something in Ireland, but couldn't
03:13 PM on 05/30/2008
truthtold. They're renting not buying. As for buying in the EU, it's country by country.

Maybe some of this real estate is for their children when they are grown, so they'll always have a home/an investment. They have, what, three kids with two more on the way? And I'm sure they'll have or adopt more. Money can vanish quickly, no matter how much they leave their children.

Why don't these rich fools donate some money to those who are struggling in America with the rising cost of gas. I am sick and tired of these rich idiots who flaunt their money around while the rest of the world is suffering.

How many more millions of dollars and hundreds of hours of time in charity work beyond the millions they have already given and the hours they have already spent and continue to spend, would you like them to surrender? Maybe you should do a little research before you criticize people you obviously know nothing about.
