Political Wire:

Despite Sen. Hillary Clinton's insistence that her husband didn't clinch the Democratic presidential nomination until June 1992, Bill Clinton had a very different recollection in his own memoir, My Life.

He writes: "On April 7, we also won in Kansas, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. On April 9, Paul Tsongas announced that he would not reenter the race. The fight for the nomination was effectively over."

I read Bill Clinton's comment that by April 9, 1992 "The fight for the nomination was effectively over." to mean that the fight for the nomination was effectively over. Apparently lots of people here think it means that on that date Bill Clinton had the 2145 delegates he needed to assure a 1st ballot victory. He did not.

Bill Clinton did not reach his delegate magic number until June 1992. Obama, like Mondale, will not reach his delegate magic number until superdelegates vote him in.

Thanks for the fact checking. In support of your comments, let me add the following:

For the record, “Clinton Secures Party Nomination” was the front-page headline in the Washington Post on June 3, 1992—the morning after the California primary. The day before, on the New York Times’ front page, Johnny Apple wrote that a bad showing by Clinton “may stir some fresh speculation within his party about an alternative candidate.” (Front-page headline: “CLINTON IS FACING A DIFFICULT HURDLE IN CALIFORNIA VOTE.”)

Bill claims that no presidential candidate has ever been so disrespected. In 1992, Jerry Brown came to the Democratic convention with 596 delegates, and wanted a chance to address the convention. The Clinton forces wouldn't allow it, and Brown was reduced to seconding his own nomination. The convention rules didn't allow the Clintons to prevent that. If that isn't disrespect, I don't know what is. What do you think the chances are that Hillary will ask to address the Denver convention, and that Barack Obama will allow it? Is 100% good enough for you?

Just out curiosity, why do you think that not being allowed to address a convention after all primaries and caucuses are over equates with being disrespected at a time when it can sway voters and superdelegates?

And I agree that Jerry Brown should have been allowed to make a speech - I think his sister Kathleen Brown (CA treasurer) was introduced as a rising female leader one night and spoke briefly.

IHuffington post must be commended and applauded for posting the Clinton
article. When did he sew up the nomination? Let us find out the truth by
investigating all the "themes" and not just in his book!
Truth, We can all research further than this article to double check his controlled responses by reading all the stories and fact check on Google Clinton Chronicles. The answers about
When he knew about nomination, Why he knew and how He did it. It answers some of
the questions we have all been asking about truth. We have to ask Why the mainstream
media never fact checked or questioned Hillarys comments.
The Clinton Chronicles may indicate why. The entire Clinton story right back to when Bill was a governor. The media knew but they covered it up. Another State & White House Coverup. would have come out so they left the story of her comments and desperation alone. It is a riviting and scary story on tape. .

My feeling is that the reason the Clintons can't give up is because too much is owed. She was the appointed one and was going to win. You wonder how much those donors to Bill Clinton's library wanted in payback and how many favors are owed.

Can't think of any other reason why they are so desperate.

She looked like she was lying when she said it. The whole video clip (RFK assassination gaffe) looked forced and scripted.

...."Hillary Clinton began the disinformation campaign. Appearing on "The Today Show," she righteously claimed that there was nothing to support Lewinsky's claims and insisted that Bill was just "ministering" to a "troubled young woman." Then came the blue dress and the Clintons finally — and reluctantly — changed gears."

Hillary has a long history of 'confusion"

Hillary has also a long history of fraud and confusion. Their absolute desperation is based on their need to cover up a trail of fraud and corruption. Scams of Senior citizens , election fraud,
and other charges still waiting for prosecution. Take the time to go to Google - Clinton Chronicles
- it will confirm exactly on video their whole history of all of the coverups and answer your questions.
Desperation can lead to real dangers for all of us.

Yes, Bill was certainly ministering to the young woman! Who would ever doubt this explanation?

You know, I don't care when the "official" date was. What I remember is that people were unsure until after the convention. I'll always remember that convention, and the win that November. It was absolutely wonderful to finally have a Democrat in the White House again.

Yeah, who cares about facts when making stuff up is much more dramatic.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to dodge sniper bullets on my way to my White House Pro-NAFTA reception.

I appreciate your humor but please let's not degrade Roy Orbison and his immense talent doing a requiem for Hillary.

Try this video on for size. I think it hits the nail on the head. The optimum combination of athletic prowess and a sledgehammer. The outcome is a thing of beauty.
