While Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has made action on climate change a central theme in his campaign, he won't be on hand to vote next week when the Senate considers a landmark bill imposing mandatory limits on greenhouse gases.

In a press conference late Wednesday afternoon, McCain said he did not support the bill sponsored by two of his closest allies, Sens. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) and John Warner (R-Va.) because it doesn't offer enough aid to the nuclear industry, and he would not come to the floor to vote on it.

"I have not been there for a number of votes. The same thing happened in the campaign of 2000," he said. "The people of Arizona understand I'm running for president."

McCain the "Maverick"...Maverick my a**!! He's a political flip-flopper who doesn't even have the balls to show up to vote yay/nay because he's not quite sure which vote would be best for him (politically) in the long run.

He's a coward with No Honor!

The Dems should love this man. Always something to talk about with John McNone.

Looking forward to all the youtube videos and TV commercials exposing his "ideas" and "moving" stances on issues.

But if Bush was backing it, he'd be there in a New York minute to vote yes, as he did last year 100% of the time!

The people of Arizona understand that he's running for president and due to that schedule is not available to be there for these important times of global importance...idiot. His poor mother.

Obamaworld...take notes on this event. You will need to hurl it back into his tired face in November.

Mr. flip flop idiot.

WilliamG has made a clear and valuable point. Put aside all the lies, flip-flopping, political stunts, photo-ops, his ties to lobbyists of all kinds, etc. Forget all that stuff and just look at him and listen to him. Is this the future of America? Sorry, John. Ain't gonna happen. Change is happening. Most of us see now. Most of us, and thankfully the young voters, see the bull#$%^ coming from the mouths of so many republicans, including John McCain. We see more clearly what's in the heart. And, frankly, when I just look and listen, I see one candidate whose heart is still intact and hopeful. And I think we all know who that is.

Other than the way he pounds his arms up and down as a staged show of excitement, what I love about this guy is he doesnt even know how to pander properly. He tells independents and neocons what he thinks they want to hear. Then he doesnt follow through. He doesnt realize he's going to lose them both. He's classic.

He is pandering, he does not believe in Global Warming at all. He is trying to do a political dance. His dancing days are almost over. He panders to get the right wing neo con votes and then he panders to get the independent vote. Hate to tell you this Mac , but if you don't go with the right wing neo con's then they will diss you. You can't have it both ways. They are always right no matter what!!!

McCain has the worst voting record in terms of no shows of all 3 candidates. He even no showed on his own bills (immigration); the torture bill ( he supposedly opposed it but didn't bother to show that by voting); and he couldn't be bothered on the equal pay antidiscrimination bill and now this. Funny, the other candidates have found the time to vote on these bills and they are actually still vying in a primary. Not surprised! Gimme a break!!

Mcain did show up and cast a vote that gave Immunity to telecoms and that Waterboarding should not be called torture because he did not want to tie the hands of the CIA..Low and behold the next day Romney and the other right winger came out and endorsed him!

"Maverick" McCain Now Opposes Key Global Warming Bill, Will Skip Vote
Three Weeks Ago: "I Hope It Will Pass"

OK, Nowhere in the entire full article does it say anything about "I Hope It Will Pass".

Huffpo - what, nobody wanted to read the piece with just the top headline? Had to throw a sub headline in there that would bring people to the article?

Well, you got me here - now buhbye - will find another article that appropriately fits the headline.

This just show you that McSame don't really care about this issue. he wants to have it both ways. He wants the votes of the people who believes in Globe warming but don't want to vote on the issues because of fear of losing the right wing nuts in his party. That's why we call him Mcsame. He talks, walks and talks let Bush on most things.

it doesn't offer enough aid to the nuclear industry? wtf? when has the nuclear industry EVER paid it's own bills? the whole reason they exist is because of all the aid they've gotten thus far. mccain is vacant.

The other night, I saw a clip. McCain's up front, and there's a comment from the audience. McCain disliked it so much that he calls the guy "my friend", twice in the same sentence.

Hate the "my friend" gimmick............so subtle.

Now, I'm sick of the media beating to death, the word "maverick". John McCain, maverick. Maverick John McCain.

If McCain ever was deserving of the mantle of "maverick", it ain't anymore. Now, Maverick McCain's connotation is limited to "old, old man with a very mean temper".
