The Obama press team is sending around their latest email to their list of supporters, a direct, confrontational hit on President Bush:

Dear [supporter] --

Defeat the Bush-McCain Fundraising Machine Right now you have a unique opportunity to go head-to-head with George W. Bush.

This week, John McCain and George Bush gathered behind closed doors, away from the cameras, to raise money for McCain's campaign.

McCain used Bush to raise a reported $3.5 million from a group of about 500 Republican contributors.

That's a lot of money that will undoubtedly be used to attack us and make the case to continue George Bush's failed policies.

But I have an idea about how we can match it. And we don't need George Bush.

Right now, someone who has already given once to the campaign is ready to give again -- but only if you make your first donation right now.

If you take the next step and decide to own a piece of this campaign, that supporter will double your gift.

You'll see the name and hometown of the person who matched your donation. And you can even choose to exchange a personal note about why you've decided to support a different kind of politics.

Double your impact -- your donation of $25 will equal $50 for our cause.

Now is the perfect time to make your first donation:

As the presumptive nominee of his party, John McCain has had a three-month head start to build his campaign. In that time, he's made his fundraising strategy clear.

2008-05-29-bushmccain.jpgIn the words of one reporter, the gala fundraiser with Bush was "part of McCain's delicate effort to find the balance between embracing an unpopular president and taking advantage of his huge continuing draw with well-heeled Republicans."

We'll see more of this dance in the weeks and months ahead, but we already know the steps.

As we prepare to take on John McCain, now is our first chance to show that a grassroots movement of people giving only what they can afford can go toe-to-toe with the Bush-McCain fundraising machine.

And with the last three contests of the Democratic primary coming up in the next five days, the resources we're building right now are an urgent necessity.

Help build our movement by making a matching donation today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/match

John McCain can run from the cameras, but he can't hide from the fact that he's aiming to continue George Bush's policies for a disastrous third term.

Let's show that we're ready to take him on.

Thank you,

Barack

I just put Baracks $50 bucks in the tank. I have a Turbo Mustang, and it needs premium gasoline. In my area, Premium is $4.51 per gallon. I'll figure something out to get a donation sent in...

Hey you know I just thought of something! Could the high gas prices be apart of a scheme to keep Obama's campaign donations to a bare minimum? Could the oil companies be working together with the McCain criminal enterprise to eat up our extra income and discourage contributions? Sounds like a stretch huh? Well proof of this, is I just put Barack Obama's donation in my tank for gas!

I have an idea Obama supporters. Let's donate whatever we can to his campaign and find at least TWO OTHER PEOPLE to donate $10 to $25 or whatever they want in the next week. I have a feeling Barack will need whatever financial support we can possibly give him because the primary is coming to a close and the republicans will start utilizing their HEAVY DUTY artillery of 527's.

Please find at least two other people in the next week to donate whatever they can afford. We need to send a message that enough is enough.

Excellent. The more people equate George Bush with John McCain, the harder it becomes for McCain to win. If McCain loses, he'll curse George Bush for the rest of his days. First for knocking him out of the race in 2000 and second for causing him to lose to Obama.

Obama supporters,

Don't stop with just your donation to Obama! If you can afford to do more, search out the Democrats that are running in US Senate and US House races and support those candidates too! We need to take back this country. Vote out all the Republicans that have supported this corrupt imperialistic government of GWB.

There are a few Republicans that are good people, while they have different opinions, they are respectable servants. Chuck Hagel is one of them, and one I was sad to see leaving office. I hope he'll be in Obama's cabinet.

But please, find out which candidates around the country are in need of help and support the ones you like. They don't have to be from your area or state. Lets fill the Congress with good people again. It's time to take out the trash.

Great idea. We really do need a united House and Senate to get things accomplished. Take care.

I just donated for the 1st time to Obama. I had donated to Edwards and then he dropped out. Obama is the anti bush if there ever was one. Hillary is bush lite. She would not go after bush after he leaves office and would continue to push his policies of favoring companies over the American people. I can't forgot that her husband signed Nafta into law and also loosened the corporate media ownership rules. Also Murdoch gave her money which she accepted! I would not accept money from someone who spent 8 years trying to destroy my husband via his faux network

moveon.org sent me an offer for a free bumper sticker today, that says Bush's Third Term
Mc Cain
I didn't take them up on the free offer. It was so on the money I ordered 100 to give to friends and fellow supporters.

What a great idea. I wonder where he is getting the people who will match the donation. I would like to be one of them. I made an extra donation today over and above my regular monthly donation.

It's so nice to be part of a publically financed presidential campaign.

Maybe if Hillary had appealed to "we the people" rather than to corporations, she might not be in the financial fix she is in right now.

Yeah, hindsight is 20/20. I'm sure she is lamenting her screw ups as we celebrate our likely (if not overdue) victory.

xujojo - it feels good because OUR money will allow us to have the government we deserve. We'll have a president you hasn't been bought and paid for by special interests groups to whom he will have to repay.

I feel exactly the same way. I think I just feel great pride in the fact that I really believe I am doing something great for our country. I have never been compelled to donate to a candidate before. I had never been moved to change my political affiliation before. Although I have never voted party line, I never changed my party to vote in a primary. I see Barack Obama as a true American Hero. I just know he will do his very best for this country as he has all his adult life.
