Bob Dole yesterday sent a scalding email to Scott McClellan, excoriating the former White House spokesman as a "miserable creature" who greedily betrayed his former patron for a fast buck.

In an extraordinary message obtained and authenticated by Politico, Dole uses his trademark biting wit to portray McClellan as a classic Washington opportunist.

"There are miserable creatures like you in every administration who don't have the guts to speak up or quit if there are disagreements with the boss or colleagues," Dole wrote in a message sent yesterday morning. "No, your type soaks up the benefits of power, revels in the limelight for years, then quits, and spurred on by greed, cashes in with a scathing critique."

Michael Marshall, Dole's spokesman and colleague at the Alston Bird law firm, confirms the message came from the former senator and presidential candidate. "Yes, it is authentic," Marshall wrote in an email.

I think Dole needs a big shot of vodka with his next Viagra fix.

Being called a miserable creature by Bob Dole is like being called an automobile by a Buick.

Bob Dole has played the hand grenade that he threw that rolled back on him into a career. His self inflected purple heart has gotten him a lot of traction. It has gotten his wife a Senate job and him as spokesman for viagra. Maybe if his wife had not of aged so badly he could throw the viagra away.Bob Dole talking about greed is not this the pot calling the kettle black. He is making a fortune telling the world he can't get it up for his old lady.

Oh, hearing the truth in Scott McClellan's book will hurt military families alright - just like hearing the truth broke hearts in Pat Tillman's family.

I don't consider Scotty a patriot by any means - but more like a repentant sinner trying to right the wrongs he participated in for so long.

At least he has the human decency to say he's sorry - not like so many of those other miserable excuses for human beings who still cling to their bullshit like a life raft in a storm.

Republicans do love to claim that any hint of dissent will "harm" the military and their families, or Police, or Firefighters, or any other HUMAN SHIELD they can use in an arguement to keep people away from the facts.

These people use public servants to pick up their laundry and then turn around and talk about how noble they are...but they sure don't want to pay for their education, or help them get counciling to keep them from mental illness(until it becomes a crisis).

The Republican Party has become the party of Evil. My party, the Democrats, are mearly stupid. Stupid I can deal with, but it is time to ride evil out of town on a rail.

I don't consider McClellan a "patriot" either, but what I do find somewhat interesting is that the main push of the Rights "talking points" seems to be that his biggest sin is that his "tell all" was motivated by "GREED".

Talk about hypocrisy! The Republican Party has cornered the market on GREED for years. Is Dole trying to suggest that McClellan's GREED is of a different nature than Bush's GREED? That the oilman, from an oil family, who presided over the largest increase in oil profits in history isn't the same as a guy making some money from a "tell all" book? Is he suggesting that Cheney's GREED is qualitatively somehow different from McClellan's?

The list of Right Wingers who have demonstrated GREED is too long for a single post on this blog. How can the party that has established itself as the party that will allow you to "get yours now" at the expense of your children, possibly point to someone else's GREED as a negative motivation?

It's ludicrous beyond comprehension.

McClellan is simply demonstrating the Republican Ethos! Exposing the dirty deals for the sake of making a buck should make him a Republican HERO, not a villain.

Republicans ALWAYS play the greed card regarding book deals. They NEVER deal with the truth of the matter, only that the author is out to make money. They ALWAYS look for a diversion from the truth, and usually they find it by resorting to their own low motives.

OK- so he has come running out of the Whore House, naked as a jay bird- let's buy him some decent clothes and bring him into church with us. Nobody says we have to marry him.

Dole is a doddering old fool - He shows up for a few weeks to advocate for the Vets and then goes back to sleep without following up on all the changes he and Donna S proposed for the VA . . .

only to be awakened from his deep sleep by a cold call from W to emerge from his coma and attack McClellan

go back to your game of shuffleboard Bob . . .

and don't forget - Viva Viagra (hey Bob give me a call if you have a woodie lasing 4 hours or longer - that is if Liz will let you get to the phone).

I never understood this type of logic...McClellen coming clean will hurt military families. It goes along with the logic that if we pull out of Iraq ow or "surrender" as the right wingers call it on a military discussion board I frequent, then we are saying that our brave service members have died in vain...and we can not do that to them or their families. So we stay in this war to make everyone feel good...I just don't get it. A lot of people seem to be buying into though.

Go figure?!

Cheney, Dole, and fellow war profiteers can get rich by waging an unjust, pre-emptive illegal war but McClellon should'nt profit by telling the truth! Is this the RNC/GOP's 'trickle down' version of the new American way?

Wow, 'miserable creature' projective identification! Extreme, reactive, and over the top language by a former politician! Dole is exhibiting the sort of dis-inhibition that takes place in early dementia. Maybe some brain bleeds co-occured with that blue-tint viagra experience!?

Dole is absolutely right. However, at least the message printed here only speaks to McClellan's character flaw in not speaking up when it could have made a difference and speaking up now in exchange for financial profit. Nowhere in the email message as printed here does he attack the truthfulness of McClellan's account. So yes McClellan is a bastard for going along with these crimes and then exposing them for a profit. But the sin of disloyalty can not be weighed on the same scale with the crime against humanity of fraudulantly taking a country to war and the violence that has been done to the Iraqi people.

gee that's might noble of you to acknowledge the magnitude of Bush's crimes.

McClellan was a small cog in the Bush war machine. The idea that he could have resigned his post to express his displeasure with the momentous lies of that machine and that his resignation would have been allowed to slow down that machine is ludicrous -

This man simply couldn't sleep at night knowing that he was complicit in these crimes and writing this book is the only way he could ever wake and look himself in the eye -

He could have quit and spoken out earlier. Please spare me the depiction of McClellan as some sort of quiet hero. The guy is a worm.

I disagree with Move-On and Dole. Both are perpetrators of the expensive and abusive partisan politics that have violated our political process into never ending war campaigns.

Let every staffer debrief honestly and openly to the public. Let them write their heartfelt reflections on political and government service. Otherwise we diminish into the 'silence of the lambs' or the low level morality codes of criminals, gangs, and perpetrators of incestous violence on the American people and the World..

It seems to me that what hurts military families is when their husband or wife or father or mother or son or daughter doesn't come home. Or when he or she comes home missing body parts or brain function. Or when they come home spiritually wounded, sometimes beyond repair, by what they've seen and done. This is the risk that we ask all military families to assume and the burden that many have to bear when their worst fears are realized and become the reality that they will carry forever. To ask this sacrifice when it is not necessary is the real hurt. To lie those families into a war was the hurt that Scott McClellan and those he worked for perpetrated. To tell the truth now in no way makes up for the lies, but perhaps it will decrease the possibilty that other military families suffer this same hurt in the future. But only if the media, the Congress, and indeed the American people learn to be more vigilant before giving a president the go ahead to send American young men and women to war.
