LA Times: John McCain Has A "Nightmare" YouTube Problem

The Los Angeles Times reports on McCain's "YouTube gap":

The video lasts just more than three minutes. But that's long enough to raise some nasty doubts about John McCain's reputation as a straight talker.

There's the Arizona senator arguing both sides of President Bush's tax cuts. Here's the supposed foreign policy wizard flubbing the simple facts about which terrorists are being trained in Iran. He's even ducking his own admission that he needs to learn more about economics.

The newsreel of McCain lowlights has zoomed up the YouTube charts in the last week, with more than 1.5 million views. "John McCain's YouTube Problem Just Became a Nightmare" is the video's title, which might be dismissed as partisan hype but for one thing: It's true.

The presumed Republican presidential nominee is taking a serious drubbing on YouTube, the most popular video-sharing service on the Internet and the virtual town square for millions of new young voters. ...

Six of the top 10 videos returned by a "John McCain" YouTube search Thursday pegged the 71-year-old as inconsistent, extreme, wooden or a combination of the three. (The one clearly favorable piece came from the McCain campaign and focused on his Navy service.)

Here's the video from BraveNewFilms that's "raising nasty doubts" about McCain:

The corporate media can't cover this stuff! It has NOTHING at all to do with Obama's pastor, and it's not about a missing white girl. Fuck the corporate media. Turn it off. Educate yourselves.

The media doesn't care what you think of their output. If you watch and are outraged, you're still making money for them. There's nothing that says you have to watch to protest, either.

I won't even consider reinstalling my TV software until after January 2009--and probably not even then. But some folks just can't do without their cable, their FX and E!, their H&G and Animal Planet and "news."

If living without episodes of CSI or American Idol or The L-Word make you cringe and whine, you're their bitch.

But: people won't give you amazed looks when you say you don't watch TV. Your children won't terrorize you. Besides you need to plug in and zone out, so get off my back and get out of the way, I'm watching something here!

Because it's not the boob tube when YOU'RE watching, is it?

Yeah . . . like Bush's military record or drug use that forced him out of the campaign in 2000.

All we need are more skeletons to come out of the closet and rattle real loud. Yeah, that'll do it. The perfect skeleton will arrive any time now and then, POW, problem solved and impeachment lands on the table with a Liberty Bell clang. Roll credits, I'm going back to bed.

If you want to get some insight into McPain"s character, research the history of his first wife and how she became an ex.

Read the whole story, not just the Cliffs Notes or spin from the RePugUgly campaign.

Interesting... Reading the article, I'm struck that young liberals are doing with YouTube exactly what old Republicans did with talk radio a while back. Too bad they didn't lean from that 'series of tubes' thing and get their grandkids to show them the online ropes.

Perhaps, but it's still old white people who vote most reliably and regularly, and it's WAY easier to turn on an AM radio than it is to log on to the "whadja call it? The Intermet?" find a site called "what? The U-boat?" and enter a search item in the "huh? What's a field?" and then click to play.

I work with senior populations, and the vast majority DON'T use the Internet, DO listen to the radio, and DO vote. They trust the radio. The Internet is that weird thing that is of no practical value, is hard to use without motivation and instruction, and has little tiny words and flickering distracting visuals.

Here's how you access the radio: finger and thumb, twist the knob.

The only people I've come across who support McCain are hard-core Republicans who just can't admit that during their party's domination of our political process, their corruption of same, and the hypocritical scandals from the same people who were so appalled by Bill Clinton's sexual shennigans, our country has been bleeding - perhaps mortally. Threy aren't all bad people, just people who can't admit they have been so badly misled.

I know alot of "Hard-Core Republicans" and none of them like McCain. They will vote for him over Obama, but they don't like him. The middle of the road folks like him quite a bit though.

Oddly, my conservative friends all consider themselves hardcore Republicans and all but one wouldn't vote for McCain unless Clinton was the nominee. They REALLY hate McCain -- on every issue near 'n dear to their hearts, he's on the wrong side. They're small-government, secure-the-borders, states' rights conservatives, and they think McCain is lying, scheming RINO scum.

Those Republicans are hoping for an Obama win with a big Barr turnout, to show the GOP brass just how fed up the base is. I'd like to see some Obama-McCain-Barr 3-way polling!

Citizens of Colorado:

Our governor has chosen to remain silent during this historic nomination fight. We voiced our opinion in our caucuses and i for one want our state to proudly help Obama clinch the nomination on Tuesday. This would require a flood of superdels to endorse on Monday. Please contact Governor Ritter through his webpage and phone number and encourage him to endorse Monday. Thanks.

McCain doesn't have a YouTube problem. He has a telling the truth problem. Don't blame YouTube!

Karl Rove to John "Little Johnny" McCain: "Don't worry Little John! I got this really great plan, See! First, we say that Obama has been having sex with a black woman! See! Then we say that they had a black baby in North Carolina! See! Then we tell Fox News to run the story, 24-7 for the next 6 months! See! What do you think? McCain responds: We did that already! Rove asks: Did it work? McCain: Yes! It did!

Vote for John McCain and poke a stick in the eye of the conservative movement. Kill off what's left of it. They HATE McCain.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:28 AM on 06/01/2008

Which John McCain do they hate? The one with a 100% anti-abortion record? Or the one who will make Bush tax cuts for the wealthy permanent so what's left of the middle class will support his "All War all the Time" approach to foreign policy? The one who believes in campaign finance reform - until Big Money decides he's their candidate - then refuses to return taxpayer money which bailed out his faltering campaign?

What Republicans should hate him for is that he's a chameleon who agrees with whoever is in front of him. Some "maverick." I agree that the "liberal press" has given him a free ride while they've been beating up on Obama for what his pastor said years ago and for Hillary being a "divider." (Alas, she's proven them right on that charge.)

how about Obama consistenly changing his tune on his pastor.

BFD.
Who cares about some pastor when troops are dying, America's people have health care problems and the economy is on the verge of collapsing? The McCain video addresses his stance (if that is the right word) on some of this.

Your comment addresses ZERO.

This is supposed to be some sort of come-back? That Obama says he loves the man even if he hates what he says? I could say that about my brother-in-law. Does that make me an unreliable liar - like mcCain?

Who knew YouTube would become so vital to our elections. Voters no longer have to completely rely on the MSN for information.

Rarely is McCain challenged on his ever-changing positions. In fact journalists, generally speaking, are protective of McCain. Often his gaffes and other mistakes are not given ink to the printed news and rarely discussed on TV. When they are, however, journalists and talking-heads play down their significance. For example today the AP ran a story, even though critical to a degree -- without explanation or naming either pastors, Hagee or the other -- wrote McCain " turned down two endorsements." None the wise the Ap led their reading audience to assume McCain took the initiative. He didn't. McCain sought their endorsements for months, but later was forced to denounce their endorsements after Hagee made headlines for his controversial and offensive remarks.

Although the press have made little issue out of McCain's astounding ignorance on issues such as: the difference between Sunni and Shiite, the number of troops in Iraq, etc. McCain cannot hide from his own words any longer.

Honesty matters to Americans. For the first time voters have access to tools that by-pass the traditional news since it no longer functions as a watch dog. From the macacca incident to revealing McCain's edited version in Iraq to videos of Wright's sermons in their entirety YouTube is revolutionizing politics as usual.

Obama should come out with a television ad showing these clips, then asking whether schizophrenics are suitable as presidnets. ;)

he had to sell his soul to the war mongers in america to win the election.

that is the sorry state of the insanity in america.

we have become the germany of the 1930's

mega industrial military complex

invade and occupy a country on lies and deception

control the media to support war

and we have our own sociopath in office that dances on the white house steps and sings while two wars are going on.

most americans are imperialists and many are out and out war mongers but blame their politicans for their problems.

when a nation calls their presidental candidate a war hero for bombing men women and children in an illegal war based on lies deception and fear mongering and this pres candidate wants to continue the existing war for 100 years then america that is the very definition of imperialism. even the demos call him a war hero.

bet germany called many of their fighter pilots war heros wanna bet? one man's war hero is another man's mortal enemy. this is dualism not of spirit but of ego.

the very term war hero is a oxymoran. the term war hero for anyone fighting in an illegal war based on lies greed and want of power is well: a tragedy.

I feel like I'm living in just pre-Nazi Germany sometimes. I had to get a passport at age 62 to cruise off Mexico and then to Hawaii. 'Your papers' has an ominous tone to it. My husband is Jewish. I think the Bush administration is the closest thing to he 1930's in Germany, or any of the other horrible places where people were tortured and killed like in Bosnia. Our government sent troops and the national guard to occupy and take over another country. Where is the American outrage. I just don't get it. We have war criminals in the white house and they are in the pockets of MSM [mainstream media] and vice versa. John McCain is an old warrior. His time has passed.
