***UPDATE***
The Clinton campaign issued a statement at around 9pm saying they will be hosting an event to announce her support for Sen. Obama on Saturday, as opposed to Friday:

Senator Clinton will be hosting an event in Washington, DC to thank her supporters and express her support for Senator Obama and party unity. This event will be held on Saturday to accommodate more of Senator Clinton's supporters who want to attend.

Multiple news organizations reported early Wednesday evening that Hillary Clinton is expected to officially suspend her campaign and drop out of the Democratic race on Friday.

The Times has more details on the ending of her campaign:

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is moving to suspend her campaign and endorse Senator Barack Obama on Friday after Democratic members of Congress urged her on Wednesday to leave the race and allow the party to unite around Mr. Obama, according to a senior adviser to Mrs. Clinton.

Mrs. Clinton is likely to make the announcement in New York City, an aide said, although no final venue has been chosen.

Her decision came after a day of telephone conversations with supporters on Capital Hill about what she should do now that Mr. Obama has claimed enough delegates to secure the nomination. Mrs. Clinton had initially said she wanted to wait before making any decision, but her aides said that in conversations, some of her closest supporters said it was urgent that she step aside.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the word from the Obama camp is that a joint ticket is unlikely:

Close supporters suggested she would like to be his running mate, on a unity ticket.

But close advisers to Sen. Obama signaled an Obama-Clinton ticket was highly unlikely. People in both camps cited what several called "a deal-breaker" -- Bill Clinton may balk at releasing records of his business dealings and big donors to his presidential library.

HRC go away. you (and obama) would look like a fool as his VP. how can you be second banana to someone who has not passed the "commander-in-chief" test? this is why you should be VERY careful about what you say. all of your mudslinging and now you (and bill) have to kiss major a$$. maybe terry mcauliffe can give you a shot of his rum to make it taste better. have you guys visited the hrc website? these people are nuts. here's my two cents (okay, ten cents)...about 10% of hrc's supporters are absolute nuts, so they will defect, create their own party, commit massive suicide...take your pick. but, i really believe the rest are true democrats who cannot stand the possibility of four more years of bush via john mccain. so, let them go and let obama make his own pick (webb) for vp.

When Gore won the popular vote in the 2000 election by half a percentage point, but lost the Electoral College -- or, for short, "the constitutionally prescribed method for choosing presidents" -- anyone who denied the sacred importance of the popular vote was either an idiot or a dangerous partisan.

But now Hillary has won the popular vote in a Democratic primary, while Obambi has won under the rules. In a spectacular turnabout, media commentators are heaping sarcasm on our plucky Hillary for imagining the "popular vote" has any relevance whatsoever.

It's the exact same situation as in 2000, with Hillary in the position of Gore and Obama in the position of Bush. The only difference is: Hillary has a much stronger argument than Gore ever did

To cook her numbers, Clinton decided at the end of her race to include the discounted votes in Michigan and Florida. You know, the states that only she really campaigned in, because they were disqualified and the other candidates dutifully did not campaign or put their name on the ballot.
Every candidate swore they would not count those votes, swore they would have no bearing once the DNC ruled them out ---yet she alone does so now. To claim a higher tally, she also has to ignore Obama's uncounted votes in caucus states--thousands of them. She's the only one ignoring them. Delegates and superdelegates know the truth.

And the votes of those, like Puerto Rico, who do not participate in the general election.

ObamaLover (Not)

You really don't know the difference between the law governing Primary elections and General elections? Really?

These are not legally or constitutionally analagous situations. Apparently you bought Hillary's swamp land in Florida.

Only after her most loyal core of support berated her on the phone for an hour did she accidentally bang into reality and realize she lost the nomination which she effectively lost TWO MONTHS AGO. Her supporters in that interim have mistaken obdurate, stubborn and delusional for resolute, tireless and visionary. She gets no points for bowing out on Saturday, not after that self-aggrandizing thinly veiled anti-Obama diatribe guised as a "concession" speech. Above all, after the deluge of negative things she said about Obama, she cannot be his running mate. How would it look to have GOP commercials featuring Hillary questioning Obama's leadership skills? About as bad as it sounds and then some.

Don't take this wrong way, ladies, but a woman's place is in the Senate, at least that woman.

So - the only official quote as to what will happen on Saturday from the Clinton campaign itself seems to be:

"to thank her supporters and express her support for Senator Obama and party unity"

THEN there's a bunch of other stuff from other news sources which basically amount to "according to" and "sources say" and "we have learned", etc.

Keeping in mind that this is the Clintons we are talking about, I. just. find. it. a. bit. curious. that the Clinton campaign ITSELF does not choose to come out and explicitly state that Hillary Clinton will concede the nomination, congratulate Barack Obama on being the Democratic nominee, endorse him, and encourage her supporters to vote for him.

Like I said - survey all the info out there. There are statements to that effect, BUT NOT FROM THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN ITSELF.

Therefore, I am going to be very curious to see if Hillary Clinton actually makes all of those statements on Saturday.

And the fact that we (by past experience) have to be that pessimistic about her intentions and what she will actually do/say tells you all you need to know about her. I'm tired of putting up with that kind of stress after 8 years of being subjected to it by Bush, Cheney and their administration.

Here is the 2004 Presidential result: Popular vote % of vote Electoral vote
George W. Bush Republican 62,040,610 50.73% 286
John F. Kerry Democratic 59,028,444 48.27% 251
in the democratic primaries, 36,000,000 dems voted, almost precisely 50-50 (Clinton got a couple of hundred thousand votes more). So that is 18,000,000 voted for each candidate which means they each got 1/3 of the total votes that Kerry got in Nov, 2004. It is true that more dems are registered to vote this year, but I don't see how Obama can win without 33.3% of dems who voted for Clinton! The DNC assumes that all of Clinton supporters will witch over to Obama. Many will, some won't unless she is on the ticket. Does the DNC want to find out in Nov? I hope not!! look how close the race was: Obama = pledged:1,763, Superdelegates 395, Total: 2,158
Clinton = Pledged:1,640, Superdelegates 286, Total: 1,926

Like Clnton, you don't seem to value the voters in caucus states.
06:12 PM on 06/08/2008
I see another American who did not past Political Science or American National Government 101 . I also realize that you did not adhere to the dirty tricks that went against your candidate. Her "supposed" 17 million voters, not 18 million, were GOP operatives sent to cause a problem for the DNC. Did it work? Yes and no. I only say yes, because it almost caused the CHAOS, which Limbaugh wanted. Unfortunately, HRC didn't have this LOYAL gathering of ppl as she thought. In reality many of the GOP already knew that BHO would be the presumptive DNC nominee. They also knew that he would be much harder to beat in a GE compared to Clinton. She had a name solely...nothing more nothing less. Everyone knew that she would lose in a landslide to McCain.

BHO has an ACTUAL movement. There are hundreds of thousands of Republicans, like me, who listened to all candidates and became TRUE supporters of Obama. We have no desire to flip-flop, because WE are tired of what's been happening in this country, and we have no desire for it to go on for 4 more years.

Concerning the Clinton "campaign"

The Clintons can say they suspended it.

But the truth is the American People ended it.

Hillary seems to be stuck in the "denial" phase of loss, while Bill has been in the "anger" phase for quite some time.

They may never get to "acceptance" but everyone else is already there and moving on.

We have all suffered far too much on their narcisistic behalf.

Time to move on.

No more Clintons.

No more Bushes.

Now they are saying on CNN that she will support the full Obama campaign but she wants to talk (bargain with Obaba) about

1. Her new role & title
2. What she should do about her debt

etc etc

Can NOT believe this women! Shut Up and endorse or GO AWAY!
05:22 PM on 06/05/2008
How about a simple announcement. A wire report maybe.

How much further in debt will this additional big splashy going-away party put her campaign? I think she is a whore for attention.

In spite of the fact that Senator Clinton has supplied a great gift to the Republicans with her words against Obama (McCain is Presidential and Senator Obama has a speech in 2002) being used in their new ad, he has spent the last 3 weeks speaking of her in the highest regard. His thanks for treating her this way?? She spits all over him after he crosses the finish line to the Democratic Nomination. We as a party do not have time for this type of back stabbing activity.
I voted for Bill Clinton twice, but, I have and will continue to support Senator Obama. He will continue to lead by example and treat his fellow Democrat with class on the other hand with Senator Clintons behavior: "It is what it is."

Don't worry about it, she's going to the convention; and , she'll get her teeth kicked in there.

She knows she has no chance at V.P. but will use the non-selection as her new reason to go to the convention. On to 2012 and a McWar win in 2008. That's the Clintons.
05:28 PM on 06/05/2008
Why does she want it so badly? It does not seem normal.
06:06 PM on 06/05/2008
My thoughts exactly. This hunger isn't normal especially for a former 1st lady. It's just not normal

LOL ...She's ending the campaign as gracefully as she ran it...

Hillary isnt even inviting Sen Obama and his family to saturdays announcement. They should appear together and that would show she is serious about Unity of the Party.

She certianly is a control freek............selfish too. and most important.......NOT TRUSTWORTHY!!!

sorry clinton supporters..you need to see how she had lessened us women by her actions on Tuesday night and now this saturday.

I know it's tacky, but are we sure Obama would be safe in front of that crowd?

The New York delegation is trying to get Hillz to endorse Obama earlier than Saturday. Also, Gloria Steinem endorsed him this morning. This is good news for all the Hillary supporters threatening to vote for McCain--even Ms. Steinem is on board now.
