Adam Sandler Lampoons Mel Gibson In "Zohan"

Adam Sandler's new movie "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" comes out Friday, and inside Sandler pokes fun at Mel "sugar tits" Gibson, who uttered antisemitic sentiments when arrested for drunk driving in July 2006. In the film, Sandler plays an Israeli soldier turned New York hairdresser.

Fox writes of the film;

But right up front is this: a two-pronged attack on Mel Gibson for his anti-Semitic comments of a couple of years ago. When Gibson sees "Zohan," I think it's pretty clear he won't be laughing. He probably also won't be doing business with either Sony or Sandler ever again.

I'm quite sure that Sandler doesn't care, and I suppose Sony doesn't either. Gibson is considered pretty much radioactive in Hollywood following his whole Malibu arrest and rant, his subsequent unconvincing mea culpa to Diane Sawyer, and his further sightings in alcohol friendly situations.

But Sandler and writers Judd Apatow and Rob Smigel don't go easy on him. At least twice in "Zohan" they hold Gibson up for ridicule. In one instance he's the punchline for a joke. In another, more explicitly, his movies are used to underscore the neo Nazi rantings of a redneck played by rocker Dave Matthews.

MSNBC writes of Matthews' character:
"A band of Mel Gibson-loving racist rednecks (led by Dave Matthews)"

And from Arizona:
At least Sandler practices equal opportunity offensiveness, mocking stereotypes of Jews and Arabs with equal aplomb, and taking several digs at Mel Gibson and his raging xenophobia.

Adam Sandler sure doesn't seem to have qualms about discriminatory imagery when his films portray women, gays, Asians and Arabs in a derogatory or stereotypical, manner.

Perhaps he was talented at one point, but his ego has gotten the best of him.

I can't stand to watch him or his films anymore.

Personally I don't take too seriously what anyone says when they've been drinking. For a B-movie comedy actor to take a shot at an Oscar winning actor/director I think is the real comedy.

However will Mel Gibson, with his millions, his Academy awards, and earned respect for truly excellent (along, with a great deal of truly awful) film, survive having things he said repeated in Sandler's trademark Stupid Voice? He'd better commit suicide immediately to spare himself the pain of being lampooned by that master of brilliant and insightful satire.

I am not a fan of Adam Sandler, I find his bits too over the top for my taste and I don't like his politics but I have seen him do more dramatic rolls and he wasn't half bad. He should do more drama and do less comedy.

I'd see it even if the only reason were to piss off Mel "Every-Jew-Is-Personally-Responsible-For-Murdering-Jesus" Gibson.

Coupla questions for Mel: if Judaism was good enough for Jesus (who lived and died as a Jew, the last supper was a Passover Seder, after all), why isn't it good enough for YOU? Are you sayin' you're better 'n Jesus??

Other than serving as a perfectly bad example, Mel's ONLY positive contribution to the world is that, as a result of his drunken ranting, the sobriquet "Sugar Tits" has entered the vernacular.

But he hates the Jews and holds them personally responsible for Jesus's crucifixion. In fact, he and his wacko, Holocaust-denying father, reject Vatican II precisely because it "absolves" the Jews.

There's no getting around the fact that Mel is a rage-filled, anti-Semitic, evil man who tries -- and fails -- to put a veneer of acceptability on his putrid views.

As for Mel Gibson, I hope he never gets another job in Hollywood...he behavior is inexcuseable.

Sandler is very funny and has made many good movies. He is also proud of his Jewish heritage. My family and I look forward to seeing the movie.
