Reuters:

Almost 70 years after Britons were urged to Dig For Victory to produce hearty home-grown food to help the war effort, domestic horticulture is coming back.

Across the Atlantic, where mortgage defaults, plummeting property prices and spiraling oil costs have driven the U.S. economy to the brink of recession, home-grown food is also gaining in popularity.

218- American Liberals (most concentrated in the cities) are in trouble here. The only plants they know how to grow is pot. Liberals do not understand they are on "oil Life support", dependent on everything being brought to them in the cities by oil consuming CO2 producing vehicles (Liberals are the major producer of CO2).

Us poor dumb rednecks all have gardens that produce all our vegetables for the entire year and we can them for future.

Liberal Check: If today there was a crisis that stopped most shipping, how long would it be until you city folk ran out of food...3-4 days...then the "bad neighborhoods" with armed populace will systematically go to the Liberal upscale homes and take what food you have since you will be unarmed by choice.

Enjoy.

It is obvious that you have no clue to who really lives the bigger cities of this country. (republicans live in the cities more than ever, and I a liberal live in the country and have had veggie gardens for many years and own a gun.

You enjoy yourself to much

Ditto Sumocat - I'm just getting started around the 'new' home with my veggie garden - and I don't have too much space. However even this year it is potted tomatoes & anaheim peppers, and the green beans, faba beans, and acorn squash are going into the ground this weekend.

This fall I am planning on building some raised beds on one side of the yard (the sunnier side) and adding eggplant, more beans, and maybe some summer squash for next year. Also figure that I will do what my Grandpa always used to do in his (also small, urban) backyard garden - put away the surplus for the winter in the freezer.

Guys, I've been a gardener for decades...Mrs. Patriot is a certified Master Gardener. I had to build 18" tall raised beds with seating this year, because we can't do all that bending any more. We have a little 4X8 greenhouse tent that gets the seeds started. Growing season is just a tad behind up here in the tundra, but the strawberries are starting to come in. We always over-do the tomatoes (I eat a lot of the cherries right off the vine,) and freeze the sauce...for some reason it always tastes better frozen. We finished the last of last years frozen corn, so waiting for the ears from Kansas to fill the gap. One of my garden faves is swiss chard. It's just like spinach, but a little sweeter.

Will be doing a rainwater collection system over the 4th of July holiday. Maybe pick up a little extra ammo for when guys like tator-tot come around...

Silly me. I forgot. In Tator's world all us liberals live in Manhattan high-rises in some huge concrete jungle.

Conservatives all presumably live in some small town, agrarian utopia where they all hunt, fish and grow their own food. At least when they're not busy running their highly successful business or attending prayer meetings.

THE biggest stoners and meth freaks I've ever seen live in the Red Buckle of the Bible Belt, Kansas-Oklahoma-Arkansas, and they all had Rush on the radio when they drove their confederate flagged pick-ups over to vote for their fellow stoner, "George--I can't remember if I did Coke--Bush!"

And, in case you were toking with your redneck buddies and playing "Freebird" way too loud to hear, it's us liberal ex-hippy back to the land folks who started the green movement and who do most of the "groundbreaking" research in family'hobby farming. So, during the coming depression you and your rowdy friends will be buying your recreational plant matter from my very wealthy acquaintances in Northern California. Peace.
