Obama's In Control: No More Lobbyist Contributions To Democratic Party

ABC News reports:

It's been less than two days since he crossed the delegate threshold to become the Democratic presidential nominee and Sen. Barack Obama's mark on the party is already being felt.

On Good Morning America Thursday, ABC News' Chief Washington Correspondent George Stephanopoulos reported "the Democratic National Committee will no longer accept contributions from federal lobbyists, will no longer take contributions from PACs" in keeping with Obama's well-publicized policy.

UPDATE: DNC issues a statement:

"The DNC and the Obama Campaign are unified and working together to elect Barack Obama as the next president of the United States. Our presumptive nominee has pledged not to take donations from Washington lobbyists and from today going forward the DNC makes that pledge as well," said Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean. "Senator Obama has promised to change the way things are done in Washington and this step is a sure sign of his commitment. The American people's priorities will set the agenda in an Obama Administration, not the special interests."

I contributed more to Obama than I did to any politician ever BUT AFTER HIS AIPAC SPEECH--NO MORE. He could have gently educated AIPAC in his speech instead of pandering in the worst possible militaristic, bombastic way! We have been fooled by Obama's talk of Hope and Change. He had said he would tell people what they needed to hear not what they necessarily wanted to hear- What a LIE. He stuck a dagger deep into the heart of the Israeli-Palestine peace groups trying to get America’s wayward spoilt- militaristic-child Israel to think of Palestinians as human beings deserving human and property rights. Obama went beyond GWB by ignoring the international consensus that Jerusalem must be the shared capital of both parties. No word of sympathy from Obama, Clinton, McCain or any other pandering speakers for the scores of Palestinian civilians killed daily by using US supplied helicopter gun ships and F 16's.
Israel and Bush did not ask the UN to check out the nuclear accusation against Syria and bombed without proof. Read the Haaretz Israeli newspaper- editorials, reports by Amira Haas and Gideon Levy, and google B’TSELEM, the Israeli Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, ICAHD, The Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, Rabbis for Human Rights, the brave Courage to Refuse Israeli soldiers. The Jews-only state, with Jews-only roads, racist-apartheid reality for its Arab population and Palestinian neighbors with our money. Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter speak Truth.. END THE OCCUPATION!

They can continue to give to the DCCC, which has just refused to follow the ban. Many of these groups do good work: PETA, for instance, which speaks for the rights of those without representation at all. Perhaps specifying a ban on corporate lobbyists would be better.

Both parties had become conveniences for buying and selling influence. Unions, etc. can still be heard, they can just not add to the corruption of our government.

Unions can influence their members and endorse or denounce a candidate. This is the kind of influence these groups should have over politicians - votes. Anything more than that is pure corruption.
