Obama's Weekend Off: Date With Wife, Hosting Sleepover For Eight Seven-Year Olds

USA Today has details of Obama's weekend:

After appearing here, Obama traveled to a rally in northern Virginia's D.C. suburbs, then headed back to his hometown of Chicago to take the weekend off. He's looking forward to "a date" tonight with his wife, Michelle, a round of golf on Saturday ("the best I can do is the low 80s," Obama said) and a bike ride with his children on Sunday.

Not that he is expecting it to be entirely relaxing. On Saturday night, Obama will face a challenge familiar to many American parents: Eight 7-year-olds are due at his house for a birthday sleepover in honor of his daughter, Sasha.

"These kids are planning to make pizza so who knows what our kitchen will look like," Obama said. "They shouldn't call these sleepovers. They should call them wake-overs."

I think this demonstrates the kind of family values Obama has which is a good trait in a president. Pity the same can't be said for McCain who deserted his wife after that terrible car accident and she was not so beautiful anymore. Heck he even started seeing Cindy while he was still married.

The family life of the Obamas appeals to me at a fundamental level. Michelle and Barack seem to really both love and like one another and to support the family as a whole, to the betterment of all four members. Based upon the information I've encountered, it seems the M&B have an equality that defies imbalance and those (thankfully) outdated "Ozzie and Harriet" roles -- M&B are real partners. And they appear to do so naturally. She has not given up being womanly, and he doesn't need to wear football pads and spit to be manly. I get the image that they are all secure in who and what they are.

That's a stark contrast to McCain's families (he's really had more than one) and you-know-who with his two daughters, who were obviously born with silver blow-ticklers in their mouths. Those two young women seem to be the typical bored, trouble-making scions of privilege.

I've seldom been enthused about a politician, except for Patricia Schroeder, but the more I see of and hear from Barack Obama, the more I think he is precisely what America needs after 28 years of mostly horrible governance.

Oh...He will be. Trust me. He will be and I'm going to love seeing him and his lovely family move into the White House. Heck, I'm going to TIVO the event for posterity's sake. I can well imagine the little one hiding under her Daddy's desk similar to the way John-John once did. And I see Obama being as indulgent of his children's need for attention as JFK was to his children.
