Gina Gershon Breaks Silence On Vanity Fair's Link To Bill Clinton: "A Crazy, Outrageous Lie" (VIDEO)

Gina Gershon broke her silence and spoke out about the Vanity Fair article that linked her to Bill Clinton. Promoting her Broadway play "Boeing Boeing," Gershon appeared on Monday's "Live with Regis and Kelly." With Mario Lopez in for Regis, Gershon told the hosts her side of the story.

"It is such a crazy, outrageous lie that has nothing to do with me... Journalists, it's so scary, because they get these rumors, hearsay, put it in the story, and it goes around the world in a minute... Vanity Fair never even did fact checking.... These irresponsible journalists - they're not accountable for anything."

Through her lawyers, Gershon asked Vanity Fair for a retraction and correction last week, a request Vanity Fair denied.

Why is this story important? Who cares with whom either of these people has recreational sex?

Our journalism has gone off the rails, a long time ago in the beginning of the '90s, when large, non-journalistic conglomerates like GE and Disney started buying reputable news organizations. Suddenly, only audience in the 24-hour news cycle mattered. So first they started reporting, 24/7, the kind of story that only the Star or the Enquirer used to "report": you know, wife cuts off husband's penis, it is reattached; figure skater has friend injure another figure skater; and then all the news sources were on the air 24/7 with the same story. But that wasn't enough: that left morons they used to call "news readers" improvising in front of the camera. They're just pretty and glib, and their speculations are no more "news" than my Aunt Fanny's fanny. During this same period, they closed down news bureaus all over the country, and internationally. You don't care about "news," you see. You want shark attacks and Britney's latest underwear malfunction.
It's disheartening to see the obvious political use of "news gossip" in this case, particularly on a new "news source", and even more disheartening to see the bloodthirsty cries among Obama supporters. You should reflect that the New York Times took the lead on the "Whitewater" non-story, about which nothing at all was ever proven about the Clintons, and then, in a natural progression, took another sort of lead on the WMD story later. That's why we need facts, not unsourced gossip.

The relevance of this story s that it reminds us that were dealing with the Clinton's again. We can get caught up in this Hillary "holdin' it down for the girls" stuff and forget that they come as a package along with a lot of baggage. Since they left the WH Bill has been spreading himself throughout east and west coast social circles. Since they left the WH Bill has been dealing with and making a ton of money from relationships with unseemly and questionable foreign characters. Since they left the WH the Clintons have not been transparent about who has contributed to the Clinton Presidential Library and if there were any "quid pro quo" involved. The press still haven't pressed them to release all of their tax records over the past eight years. Just like the Clinton's we have only part of the truth.
When these so called "angry" Hillary supporters get out there and complain that she's gotten a raw deal from the press I and many others here in the DC area just shake our heads. The Clinton's need to be re-vetted. The campaign that Obama ran against them did not vet them. If Hillary had won the nomination John McCain would have walked into the WH. The GOP have been sitting on the names of these female "friends" and business associates of Bill Clinton and they were going to start dropping them "Chinese water torture" style starting after the Dem Convention.

winced and 'seen visiting" implies that it wasn't innocent. yet by everyone's accounts, this woman has been in the presence of bill on 3 occasions and each time neither was seen alone. and she has categorically denied the smear. this is a smear, brought out on the day before the final primary, intended to revive all the garbage being written here.

each of you saying it's ok for this to have been written, complain about the anonymous emails concerning Obama's background.

based on your logic, the DEMs shouldn't nominate Obama because the press will be full of unsourced stories about his ties to islam and other assorted terrorists. if you give in to smear tactics, then it's over.

most of you still don't get it, it appears. the reason the right wing repubs were so merciless on bill's private life was that he put the lie to the repubs arguments that dems cannot govern. since they couldn't attack his policies because the country was prosperous, we were at peace and ourt standing in the world was at an all time high, they went after him personally. and for DEMS to buy into the same garbage is despicable.

That's it. That's the whole allegation.

Nothing there that Vanity Fair can be sued for, so naturally they've refused to retract it. But why would they even print that unless they want us to believe they know more than they're telling? And it's all third-hand and shadowy gossip. There's lots more of this kind of crap in the article. VF has hit a new low.

The reason this allegation has legs IMHO is because the journalist of the piece is married to Dee Dee Meyer who was Clinton's Press Secretary. I don't think that Dee Dee would have 'allowed' her husband to write such a provacative piece, to include naming Gershon, if he was not assured of the accuracy of the provider of the material. No one believe that Clinton would have had inappropriate relations with a White House Intern either, but we all know that story had legs as well and led to Paula Jones getting paid big time for sexual harassment.

If the story wasn't true, and given the high profile of the journalist and his background, via his wife, with the Clintons, I believe Gershon, backed by Clinton money, legal access, would file a suit if nothing more than GP!

Yes, they have had a few *paid* tidbits that turned out to be right but a broken watch is right twice a day. When the National Enquirer has earned begrudging respect has been in the OJ case or Anna Nicole's death when they paid people to talk only to them. At least, in their defense, the sources are then named and held accountable. Where the NE has infected the national media is in making it easier and easier to make a standard of reporting that "people are saying... (insert spiteful gossip here)" as if the mere presence of gossip, not matter how untrue, is newsworthy enough.
