Obama Could Raise $100 Million In June, Dem Fundraisers Say

Now that the Obama campaign has turned its focus towards the general election against John McCain, leading Democratic fundraisers are predicting that Obama's fundraising could skyrocket even higher than it already has. Specifically, some predict that he could raise $100 million in June:

Leading Democratic fundraisers predict that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will raise hundreds of millions of dollars over the next few months if he opts out of public financing and begins raising money for the general election.

Specifically, they say Obama could raise $100 million in June and could attract 2.5 million to 3 million new donors to his campaign.

These fundraisers say Obama could increase his fundraising dramatically because of three factors: a boost of enthusiasm among Obama donors following his clinching of the nomination; the migration of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-N.Y.) donors to his camp; and the mobilization of big Democratic donors who have given little so far this year.

Record-breaking projections give Obama strong incentive to pass up $85 million in public funds that his opponent, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), has said he would accept.

Check Huffington Post's Fundrace to see if your friends, neighbors, colleagues and even your boss are adding to Obama's potential $100 million haul.

My only concern re donating to Obama's campaign is that some of my hard earned money might go to pay off Senator Clinton's campaign debt. She misused the money given by her supporters, and spent it to support John McCain over Barack. This is now the topic of GOP attack ads, coming right from Clinton's mouth! If he has enough money to help her out, he doesn't need any more of mine.

This myth has been repeatedly debunked. None of the funds donated to Obama's campaign will be siphoned off to pay HRC's debt. What he may, and probably will, do is hold fundraising events on her behalf to help her decrease her debt, especially in light of what is owed to vendors. It is common for politicians to help each other raise funds for their campaigns. No worries here. Yes WE Can ... and no McCan't!!!

What happened to the Joshua Generation story? I wanted to say if Dubya has thought of it, you guys would have said he pulled it from Putin's playbook. If Hillary had pulled a stunt like that, it would be from the Republican handbook. Strange.

The Home School Legal Defense Association threatened to sue Obama for trademark infringement, since its "Generation Joshua" group has been established since 2003.

The problem this group will encounter is that unless they took the formal and expensive step of copyrighting the name and any design related to their name, they have no case. By way of example, Toys 'R Us can sue and prevent others from using 'R Us because they have formal rights to the moniker. It does not matter how long a similar, or even the same, name has been used by a group if they did not protect it. Next...

I am worried about the Republicans rigging machines here in Fl again. I think that Obama can take Fl the media acts as if Florida voters are mad at him and the DNC and that is a myth. When Obama came to florida two weeks ago, he was like rock star. People were so excited like it was the second coming!!!lolol

Well I will be donating along with my mother next week when I get paid. I am also going to volunteer here in Florida on weekends for Obama. With these gas prices, it is definately the fierce urgency of now!!!

Hey everybody, don't forget to touch up the DCCC and the DSC. We still need all the representatives and senators we can get!

That's a great point. We must always support our congressional candidates. I was involved in a congressional campaign that suffered in extreme poverty, and it was a shame. We were running against a 'well named' candidate that had incumbent coffers, and couldn't unseat him because of the apathy that was apparent through the donations. No matter if YOU think your local congressional candidate can win, please donate--you may be wrong.

The DCCC and the DSC are especially important to Dem candidates. They help immensely, and their financial support can mean a donation drive happens, or it doesn't. Their money not only helps in the amount they distribute, but can mean 10 times that amount by easing the fund raising cost burden of the campaigns.

Go Dems, at every level!

this very senior lady in the backwoods has donated for the very first time. To keep it going I shall donate again each month until November. I'm hoping this will help bring out masses of the young to vote. It's their world now, I want them to take part in it.

former President Clinton, has said voting for Obama amounts to "a roll of the dice."

former President Clinton also said he didn't inhale, your point?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:33 PM on 06/10/2008

That depends on what the meaning of "is" is.
He also said. "I did not have sex with that woman".
He also took money from Columbia for a trade deal his wife could vote on.

They (the Clintons) are the old politics.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:58 AM on 06/11/2008

And he is correct. There are times when rolling the dice is the correct choice. Clearly, there are a lot of people who agree that this is one of those times. Potential is a double-edged sword, but the candidate who no longer exhibits potential can offer the electorate only more of that previously delievered. That is why McCain is a marked man. He sucks up to every neo-con article of faith that he never embraced before and that have failed miserably, because he, his ideas, and his party have exhausted themselves of potential. They are known. They are wanting.

I hope Obama realizes it was every day PEOPLE that put him where he is. I can imagine he's being saturated with Neoliberal echo-chamber rhetoric about "Empire" from the snake-oil-salesmen who have been selling the violent version of U.S. hegemony since the 70s. I don't care how many degrees these "think-tank" contributors or "analysts" have, an idiot is an idiot is an idiot.

The Neoliberal machine had their chance and they failed - MISERABLY, everything started in the Reagan years made things worse for not only America, but the world. At this point, they are purposely attacking our country and I emplore Congress to stop Cheney and his psychotic mouthbreathers from any more treasonous moves....and if Congress won't do it, maybe we should take advantage of Globalization and "outsource" the task.

If the (current) neocons are not imprisoned for war crimes, treason and torture, this country isn't worth the ink that ratified our Constitution.

Why would he not realize it? Isn't it he who has organized the largest grassroots campaign in history? Isn't it he who is trying to lose the Washington money men, so that he is answerable, not to them, but to the people? Do you guys watch TV or read? You don't need to remind OBAMA of that, he is the one who put it in place!

What matters most is not this month's donor haul. It is the number of new donors giving each moth consistently as i and millions of other have done for barack. Now that he has the nomination he will receive a massive boost from these donors which will catapult him into a 400 million haul over the next 5 months. With these resources in place, he can effectively compete in each of the 50 states and cause a redrawing of the electoral map.

The second factor is that his donors are more than just suppliers of campaign cash. They are part of the legions of volunteers who take to the streets in every state. The Vote for Change campaign will bring at least 20 million new voters in to the polls particularly in Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Wisconsin and Virginia. Combined with an effort in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida, the Obama campaign can win with both a popular and electoral college landslide.

Obama has not been given sufficient credit for this amazing campaign organization or for his strategic prowess. It is good that his opponents underestimate him.
