This is bullshit. We are paying close to $5.00 now in California. It won't stop at $4.15. It will be much closer to $5.50 or $6.00 on the national average by August and probably at $8.00 by the end of the year.

WAY wrong here.

I couldn't find regular, low octane fuel for less than $4.759 yesterday - east side of San Francisco Bay. Many stations have premium (and diesel) for well over $5...

Yeah, I know, average, but it's only June!

One local pundit said that the price of a gallon of gas trails the price of a barrel of oil, and that if oil stays in the $140/barrel range, we could expect to see $6/gallon in a matter of weeks.

Thanks Dubya and the GOP, here's another fine mess you've gotten us into.

$4.15?? $4.15?? I wish gas was $4.15 again!!

Where I live in Connecticut regular gas costs around $4.32 a gallon. It's the same nearby over the border in NY State also.

Oh what we'd do to see gas back down to $4.15 in this area.

Who ever decided the cap at $4.15 needs to shop in San Diego where I was very very lucky to find it a day ago at $4.339 after shopping and seeing between $4.50 and $4.99 for the cheap stuff.

OK.. here is one which also has the EIA forecast put in:

As you can see, it is about as "good" as a weather forecast predicting blue skies while a hurricane is having a party outside your house.

Oops.. .sorry... the graph I gave you is based on EIA data but is an IEA projection. Sorry about that. I'll try to do better...

EIA projections are completely unreliable. Here is one of their typical ones:

You can take your pick based on the data if you want to trust the straight EIA curve into nowhere or think that one of the peak oil models fits the observed data better.

Just wait until homeowners in the north/northeast who use heating oil to heat their homes
pay the BUSH price for heating oil. That alone should cost McCain 10 million votes.

Peak at 4.15....in August....whaaaaaaat?

I'm already paying $4.50. What is it with "new math" being used to calculate these averages?

You sound like you are in CA. They use the national average, which means nothing to us in CA. $4.51 yesterday at Union 76, needless to say we are not buying our gas there anymore. Finally convinced my husband to get the American Express card through Costco. It was $.18 cheaper and you get 3% cash back.

What is the interest rate on an American Express card right now? 27%? Sounds like a good deal, especially if you buy the gas on credit.

Oregon, actually.

And to be 100% transparent, it's $4.50 because my car requires premium (BMW). I could have it down to 4.20 if I didn't mind the heads getting clogged and the sensors having to try and compensate for the lower octane.

Yeah but if you don't have a costco near you, you spend more money in gas getting there to buy it. It makes no sense to drive around looking for cheaper gas if you are burning gas trying to find it. We need to have electric cars.

So,... If I pressed the buttons on my calculator correctly,...

If they 'projected' $3.73, and we have gas at an average of $4.00 i(or more) n June.

Then if they 'project' gas at $4.15, we should have gas at an average of $4.45 (or more) in August.

Any bets on how far off they will really be since some sources are projecting gas to hit $4.50 before the 4th of July?
