She e-mailed him after some of the Democratic debates, offering her thoughts on his messages and performance. "After the silliness of the last ABC debate," she says of the highly criticized event co-hosted by Charles Gibson and George Stephanopoulos, she wrote to congratulate him on "holding his ground."

His replies have been thoughtful, she says, more than a brief line or two; on the ABC debate, he responded that the questioning was "difficult" and he was being pounded on "one silly question after another."

Johansson is somewhat shocked that he keeps up their back-and-forth correspondence. "You'd imagine that someone like the senator who is constantly traveling and constantly 'on' -- how can he return these personal e-mails?" she asks. "But he does, and in his off-time I know he also calls people who have donated the minimum to thank them. Nobody sees it, nobody talks about it, but it's incredible." She adds, "I feel like I'm supporting someone, and having a personal dialogue with them, and it's amazing."

It's almost like this woman is completely clueless. I can almost hear the fake, "Marilyn Monroe, Betty Boop, boop-boopy doo affectation. "I'm engaged to Obama". A word of advice to Clueless Johansson. He's married, happily. First of all if you like him soooooooo much(boop-boopy doo) then remember and respect his wife and daughters. If you want to help his campaign, talk about his stance on healthcare, taxes, war etc. Please tell me that you are not stupid enough to beleive that all of your thinly veiled flirting won't be used against the campaign in the future. As for Barack Obama, I know you need campaign funds but you might want to handle this twit differently.

WOW. First off, Scarlett is obsessed with the whole Monroe/Kennedy thing. She even said so herself and now she wants to play it out to get her 15 minutes of fame with Obama.

Secondly, She is trying to be sneaky when she asks '"You'd imagine that someone like the senator who is constantly traveling and constantly 'on' -- how can he return these personal e-mails?"' My question is why would she even ask it that way? That is something an opponent of Obama's would ask...Not only that but she is making it sound like he likes her so much that he "needs" to respond to her every e-mail. Which I doubt.

Third, Why must she quote what he says to her in these e-mails? I don't see the point. And she couldn't wait to point out that he liked her in "Lost in Translation", "I"M LYKE SHOCKED!!! HE WATCHES MOVIES!!OMFG!!HE LIKE KNOWS ALL TEH ACTORS!LOLZ"

If this thing snowballs into a big news story, that's if she starts making more ridiculous innuendos, and it henders him from possibly becoming President, she'll be hated for the rest of her life by the entire world.

I don't think Johansson should have made the emails public. It is innocent enough but inappropriate for her to tell the media....she's young and inexperienced.....they will make a bigger deal out of this that what it is.......just my humble opinion.

How long after he's sworn in before he invites her for a personal tour of the White House?

People find the weirdest things to criticize about Obama.... Maybe because they can't find anything substantive to criticize? Oh well.

...this email exchange, along with its publicization, needs to end... ASAP...

...I foresee nothing but trouble here...

...and, truly UNNECESSARY, at that...

the picture on the promo page of the article, not this one above, but the one on the headline is just to subliminally hilarious.

Shouldn't he have something more important to be doing than emailing this actress? He has a campaign to run and issues to address. In his down time, he has a family.

How utterly vacuous and/or self absorbed do you have to be to make the comments Johansson made? You support a candidate and, if you have an ounce of sense, had to have known that the fact of your access to him, however innocent, would be used by his opponents to smear him. But that, apparently, wasn't more important that spouting off about how important you are as a celebrity with access. Nice work idiot!

This story is really no big deal... But the way Scarlett and Barack shares almost identical grins will haunt me forever.

I agree, this is just some bimbo trying to get attention from someone already in the spotlight. Scarlett, BO does not give a damn about the emails and probably not even responding. Michelle is in the house Scarlett.

People have to be kidding on this right ? Obama has answered e-mails my husband has sent ,most emails are answered by his STAFF members,as there is no time for one man to answer specific emails one by one! Isn't it time that people started THINKING along the lines of reality and focus on the issues that are IMPORTANT to this country ? The economy, loss of peoples homes, the war and the crime rate that just keeps riseing .Rural Americans are out here too and we matter just as the larger cities and towns do ,we have the SAME problems the huge cities have ,except the high gas prices have hit rural America hard if not harder ,as so many travel to larger towns to work.We have no public transit in most rural areas ,food cost more for rural towns because it takes MORE fuel to get our needed products to us.Our hospitals are in danger of closeing as rural towns rely on local and county taxes MORE ,and have less of them. Many rural towns are overrun by illegals ,because they hide easier in rural areas.Rural towns are freeways for drug trafficking from one large metro to the next large metro area. Our youth leave rural America to work and live ,as we don't have the industry here that the cities have.Couldn't AMERICANS focus on the LAST frontiers , known as RURAL AMERICA ,instead of garbage that is fed to people by the rateings greedy media ?

Shelobo I have to agree. I can't imagine that Obama has time to check his email. I'm sure it was answered by a campaign staffer.

Whats the big deal ,people?
Countless number of people from all across the USA get to dine with Barack and no fuzz about that. I would have thought its more personal having to dine with someone than exchanging emails. But of course its not Scarlet so no one cares.

I am sure some are thing Susan Rice is among his advisers only because she is hot. pathetic American thinking

Honestly, as a boomer mom, this information brings me pause. The fact that Obama takes the time to email this young startlet, who has a crush on him, immediately brings to mind the male ego flaws that we saw during the Clinton administration, which continue today. Information like this reminds us all of the human frailty when the influence of power and money cause us to make corrupt choices for the me (self) instead of the we(others) and can ultimately lead us down a path of self destruction. Hopefully, Obama will maintain the character and integrity that has inspired many of us and our children to believe that he will let his heart lead him to make the we choices and not let his ego lead him to the me choices that only serve to cause pain for him and those around him.

Scarlet is sharing the experience via the media. But Obama reply to as many personal emails as he can.try it yourself, keep sending him emails and one day he will reply you.

He even goes as far as calling people on the phone. Its not because you have a crush on him or because you are a beautiful woman. He tries to stay in touch with his supporters, irrespective

I sure do hope you are wrong, but can't help but wonder.

For some inexplicable reason I really want everything about this guy to be the real deal. From the wife and kids so prominently displayed on the campaign trail to the ability to serve the interests of the regular folk first. He's the one who decided to offer us transcendant politics.
If it turns out Obama is just riding a different train into Washington to repeat the same old, same old on any level then I'll just feel dumb for having bought into it all.

It's inappropriate, but on the positive side: I bet he won't do it again. Scarlett just bit off her nose to spite her face.
