It's tough at the top. The new Coldplay album may be steaming towards number one but the pressure is telling on Chris Martin.

The notoriously highly-strung frontman always makes clear he will not discuss his famous wife - Gwyneth Paltrow - or their children.

However, when lobbed a straightforward question on the inspiration for Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends on Radio 4, the singer lost the plot.

"Did you start with the song Viva La Vida and the idea within that song of the disposed dictator looking back at his life?" asked John Wilson, the Front Row presenter.

To which Martin replied: "I'm not enjoying this. Can I have two minutes?" and walked out of the studio.

The presenter pressed him for more. "Are you feeling under pressure?" The singer replied: "I just don't like talking about things."

The interview continued with Will Champion, the band's drummer, who insisted his colleague was not upset.

Martin is starting to grow a face instead of undefined mush which I call
a pot face. Pot smokers have a wicked temper. I have no idea if
Martin smokes pot and I don't care.

Back off . . . the guy's burned out, and no one works harder than this guy! Except, all of the other artists that are just like him . . . . . living the hectic life on the road * and * trying to have a personal married life with kids.

We're just glad that you are alive and well and healthy and still making the music that makes our hearts sing!

Thank you!

I noted that nobody had commented on the UK newpaper's story. Maybe walking out on BBC interviews is common & not news. Maybe people in the UK don't care what the man does. The British did have a reputation for being reserved. We who use HP aren't reserved about anything HP posts. No, I'm not going to criticize those who comment on what HP posts.

That wasn't a hard question. A hard question would be more like: 'when was the last time you beat your wife, or beat your children?'

Not exactly on subject specifically, but I was disappointed when they canceled a concert here in June and postponed it to November. The excuse was something about not being ready due to production problems with the album or something. Hey guys, next time finish the album completely, sit down and have a long deep breath and THEN plan your tour. Oh well, I will look forward to seeing you sometime.

What a wimp. He should ask George Michael for advice on how to handle the press because all the cramp they give him over his personal life and it doesn't matter that GM is bisexual. He's become a pro at telling them where to go. Ask George how to handle it, this stuff comes with all that money he's made. Get out of the business or get over it. At least George can sing. This guy can't sing in tune. He just hollers off key. Don't expect them to be around too much longer.

What a talentless poseur.

Just look at his comical rock-star posturing in the latest Apple commercial. He thinks he's Bono, which is sad on more than one level.

I think he'd be wiser to just say, "I never do interviews," and then not accept invitations to do so. It's one thing to not feel like talking, & quite another to take up someone else's time & schedule with the prima donna attitude. If he wants to be an eccentric artist, that's fine, but he should have as much consideration for others as should anyone else. He could have another band member do the talking, he could hire someone - but clearly, his parents fell a BIT short in the area of, "Others matter, too."

Before everyone jumps all over him...

Some people don't like talking about themselves all day. He's a musician who got famous, and now he's expected to do all kinds of things that have nothing to do with being a musician.

No, it's not the hardest job in the world, he has good life, and I'm sure he knows it. But he's allowed to have a bad day like everyone else.

One of the prices of fame; the early 80s band Missing Persons once wrote a song about it... "Noticeable Ones", if I recall rightly...

True.

I still think he's allowed to get upset about it once in a while.

His behavior is much more defensible than that of people taking anonymous pot shots at someone they've never met, based on one blurb of gossip.

He was specifically asked about the inspiration for the new album, which has everything to do with being a musician.

He's as big a pill as his wife.

Non-famous musicians aren't asked to explain their work for pubic consumption. There's no class in music school about explaining your inspiration. It does not hav to do with being a musician.

And I doubt you'd be able to withstand the pressures of fame. What a nice position you're in, toanonymously pass judgement on strangers.
