Politico:

One week into the general election, the polls show a dead heat. But many presidential scholars doubt that John McCain stands much of a chance, if any.

Historians belonging to both parties offered a litany of historical comparisons that give little hope to the Republican. Several saw Barack Obama's prospects as the most promising for a Democrat since Roosevelt trounced Hoover in 1932.

mcpoopystain had a chance to be a great leader, until he became mcbush the podium kneeler. Once he cut off his own cajones he became as useless as a steer in a herd of hiefers

I don't think McCain is racist and I don't think he's a bad guy. If he had stayed a Maverick instead of turning into McBush - he might have even made a decent Prez. But he would have never gotten the nomination cause his party DOES reflect the interests of old white racist men.

I'd say 1920 is a closer comparison, with McCain playing James Cox to Obama's Warren Harding.

MCCAIN HAS NO LAW DEGREE LIKE OBAMA. DID NOTHING FOR THE STATE OF ARIZONA

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:59 PM on 06/15/2008

I AGREE McAIN IS A BIG DUNCE!!

JOHN McBUSH lost the election when he crawled into bed with Bush. The John McCain of 2000 could have won this November. Unfortunately, he let the current John McCain kill him. All that's left is a pandering old fool who can't see the facts in front of his nose. Is there one principle the old McCain had that he hasn't cheerfully thrown away? Tax cuts for the wealthy? Check. Embracing the very people he called "agents of intolerance"...Robertson, Hagee and his ilk? Check. Caving into Bush on TORTURE! for crying out loud? Check. I could go on, but his actions speak for themselves.

I don't know how you can say that.

He did plenty for the state of Arizona. Not helpful, mind you. But he did things.

Keating 5 was not a scandal that he had an association with. He was ONE OF THEM. It was a dirty land deal that he used his position to push through.

More recently he swapped gorgeous and necessary forest land for land that had been already used. They are destroying the Prescott National Forest and building more buildings in an area with little or no table water.

McCain has done plenty! OBAMA 08!!!!!!!

The GOP called Kerry a Flip-Flopper in 2004? McCain is the biggest Flop-Flopper i have ever seen. One week he's for something the next week he's against it. Why isn't the MSN reporting on this?

The media, and the Repubs, were ALWAYS willing to immediately jump down Kerry's throat for any apparent, or semi-perceived, "flip flop". Yet they mysteriously fall deaf and dumb when it comes to McCain's flip-flopping -- or Bush's many flip-flops; and then claim they're the innocent victims of some "vast liberal media conspiracy". Pleeaasssee...!

[a] Some of McCain's flip-flops:
http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/9111.html
http://www.glennbeck.com/content/articles/article/198/5116/

First he was against the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, now he's for making them permanent.
First he was critical of right-wing religious figures, then he seeks out their endorsements.
First he was for campaign finance reform, now he's violating Fed Election Campaign regulations.
He supposedly supports veterans, but won't sign on to the New GI Bill.
McCain now opposes the very immigration bill he helped author.

[b] A quick reminder of Bush's vast record of flip-flopping:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/09/28/politics/main646142.shtml
http://www.50bushflipflops.com/Introduction/home.html

Bush was against a Homeland Security Department; then he's for it.
Bush was against a 9/11 commission; then he's for it.
Bush was against nation building; then he's for it.
Bush was against deficits; then for them.
Bush was for states right to decide on gay marriage, then he's for changing the constitution.
Bush says it's important to find OBL; then says he doesn't care; and now wants to find him again.

The press inteprets the polls to push a story. For example, Obama is leading substantially against McCain with women voters. The press didn't like this, so they tried to parse and say the Obama is losing among white female suburban voters. They used a tiny unscientific poll to push this agenda. It's pathetic, we have to stop allowing the MSM to manipulate us like this.

here's another poll........taken just this past week June 8th thru June 14th

McCain's negatives among registered voters hit an all-time high of 34 percent in the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey.

seems like Bush and McCain have alot more in common

Another poll during that same time shows that Obamas negatives are at the highest levels in over a month.

And Obamas negatives are higher than Mc Cains by 12 points.

Ah ObaLIAR is going to LOSE BIG!

This is an historic election held at an historic crossroads for this republic. As Pat Buchannan said, "There's only one candidate in this race, Barack Obama, and he will either win or lose the election. John McCain is only relevant in that he is not Barack Obama." Sounds like even PB senses we are at a turning point. All the GOP has at this point is a smear campaign, and little hope for that working since the Internet has so changed the face of American politics.

Pat Buchanan also started the smear campaign by referring to BHO as "exotic". Apparently your "exotic" if you aren't pasty white and old.

I heard this too. I couldn't believe he said that! Even the fact that Buchanan believes that his perception of Senator Obama as "exotic" or different can be used as a smear reveals much about Mr. Buchanan's overall perception of those who are different, particularly African Americans. He tried to back away from his remark after he was questioned about it, but it was obvious that he sees Senator Obama as "exotic" because he is black! This is a sad commentary from someone who has media access to the public. His views will likely not only be shared by others, but will encourage others who share this view to allow it to influence their vote.

If you look at McCain as a candidate and list his pros and cons, I think his cons are
1. His age (sorry but age does matters for a 24/7 job)
2. His health (how many pages is his medical file?)
3. His possible appointments to the Supreme Court
4. His attitude about dealing with Iran (bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran)
5. His desire to keep the Bush tax cuts
6. His opposition to the new GI bill
7. His cozy relationship with so many lobbyists
8. His stand on this Iraq occupation
9. His unwillingness to talk to our enemies
10. Temperament
The pros as I see them are
1. His experience (as presented by the MSM)
2. His likeability
I don’t see how the American voters can take a chance on a guy with so many questions that have so many bad answers.

THE POLLS DO ***NOT*** SHOW A "DEAD HEAT"...

The latest ones I've seen -- NBC and NY Times -- Have Obama ahead by 6-8 percentage points, which is way outside the margin for a statistical dead heat. But I definitely wouldn't count McCain out just yet. Frankly, I think declaring an Obama victory at this point is just asking for it. History has a way of getting in the face of people who take things for granted like this....

My points on McCain is that he has stood on both sides of about every issue and make some rather crazy umsubstantial statements. We really can't depend on McCain to relate The United States positions to other world leaders in a accurate way.
