"Hulk" Does Incredible Box Office

LOS ANGELES — "The Incredible Hulk" pulled his weight at the box office, debuting as the top weekend movie with $55.4 million.

The weekend's other new wide release, the fright flick "The Happening," opened a solid No. 3 with $30.5 million.

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Media By Numbers LLC are:

HELP WANTED! HOLLYWOOD PRODUCERS AND DIRECTORS BADLY NEEDED!

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Lack of creative ability, aesthetic sense, innovation, or imagination, or any sense of historical, political, or social relevance. Must be completely imitative and derivative.

POSITIONS OPEN IN THE FOLLOWING FIELDS:

COMEDY:

Applicant must have no sense of irony, wit, or satire. Lack of foregoing qualities to be supplemented by gags having to do with bodily [preferably gastrointestinal] functions, explicit references to genitalia [preferably female], and cheap, acrobatic slapstick stunts. For family comedies, applicant may feel free to replace genitalia references with fart jokes.

ACTION:

Applicant must be willing to have protagonist dodge sparking machine gun bullets while running atop a steel beam. No scene must be longer than five minutes, and must be accompanied by cut and paste stunts such as protagonist running hand in hand in slow motion with love interest, jumping at the last moment to avoid being injured by exploding building, helicopter, or vehicle. Fireballs a must! Must assure that female protagonist must be able to somersault and high kick at least 10 members of antagonist's evil minions.

DRAMA/HISTORICAL EPIC/CLASSICAL TRAGEDY:

No current need to fill these positions. Applicants are encouraged to apply to Independent studios in Europe, Latin America, or Asia.

Who do they make movies for these days? Twelve year old boys.
They're critic proof and don't care about the things you note.
Studios are happy to pump out the dreck they do because they know who their audience is and they make lots of money. So artistic merit has nothing to do with it.

I'm giggling about the juxtaposition of Hulk and Heather Mills on the Entertainment page- they're both making the same face.

I haven't had a chance to see it yet, but I heard it was amazing, and they're really working hard to develop the entire series . . . I can't wait to check it out. I guess I have to stop being so distracted with Digitalfuntown.com and make a point of going to see it. Digitalfuntown is pretty funny though . . . It's gonna be hard ;-((
