Search For Missing Fund Manager Sam Israel Goes Global

Authorities in the United States on Friday were trying to determine whether Samuel Israel III, a former hedge fund manager who failed to report to prison and is suspected of faking his suicide, will have enough money to sustain life on the run, Reuters reported. The New York Times looked at the many contradictions in the life of Mr. Israel, who managed the now-defunct Bayou Group hedge fund.

Since he failed to report to prison to serve a 20-year sentence for stealing $450 million from wealthy investors, speculation over his whereabouts was rampant.

Federal authorities have begun an international manhunt for Mr. Israel; the United States Marshals Service has termed him "armed and dangerous" and issued a wanted poster, The Times wrote.
