Russert Would've Wanted Offshore Drilling, Says Congressman Issa (VIDEO)

Invoking Tim Russert on the day of his funeral, California Rep. Darrell Issa (R), called for the revocation of the offshore oil drilling ban. As congressmen shared their memories of the late NBC newsman, Issa used his time on the floor to claim that Russert's tough, unbiased moderation style would set free the truth about offshore drilling.

Issa:

I think Tim Russert would have been just the right guy to hold people accountable who would talk about the 68 million acres that are 'inactive' when in fact 41 million are under current lease and use and are producing millions of barrels of natural gas and oil a day.

...

I'm going to miss Tim Russert because this debate is too important not to have a fact oriented, unbiased moderator who can in fact bring to bear the truth that we need to have.

Good grief! Darrell Issa is simply a disgrace to the fine state of California. How many times have Californians clearly said they don't want offshore drilling?

wow ... at first i thought whoever posted this was off based, but yes indeed issa is implying that russert would be for off shore drilling ... but what i don't understand is that he seems to contradict himself.

he says those "who would talk about the 68 million acres that are 'inactive' when in fact 41 million acres are active" ...

ok, so this is more than most people thought were active and yet prices of gas are still at an amazingly, ridiculously high level.

everyone knows that it will take atleast 10 years for new areas to be beneficial to our consumers ... we need an alternative energy answer now. not an old oil answer 10 years from now. i don't get it. what is it going to take for these republicans to get on board??

How repulsively opportunistic. And if another member of Congress had evoked Mr. Russert's memory to claim the opposite, it would be equally grotesque.
