McCain: I 'Didn't Love America' Until Held Prisoner (VIDEO)

Huffington Post   First Posted: 6/27/08 Updated: 5/25/11

Mccain Didnt Love America

Republicans have hammered Michelle Obama for her remarks in February that she was proud of America "for the first time in my adult life." Tonight, however, Dan Abrams showed footage he uncovered of a Fox News interview with John McCain on March 13, 2008, in which McCain said, "I didn't really love America until I was deprived of her company."

Abrams thinks McCain's comments could undermine the "right wing's steady attacks against Michelle Obama."

Great find by Dan Abrams, but there is just one problem with the whole segment. There is a real problem with Michelle Obama's comments anytime anyone brings it up. They ALL keep saying that here quote was, "for the first time in my life, I am proud of my country". When in fact, her actual quote was, "for the first time in my life, I am REALLY proud of my country".

It is getting harder and harder to find the original video clip. Here is the edited version where the word "really" has been edited out, but they could not get the "R" sound cut out. If you watch her lips closely, and listen, you can hear where the audio skips due to edit. It was a big news story on Lou Dobbs CNN when it was first discovered, but the Republican wackos just continue to omit the word really, when they qoute Michelle Obama.

http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=49244 (edited version omitting word "really")

Here is the original, unedited version that has only come to light by Michelle's having to clarify her statement. It was used by the AP in reference to her clarifying statment (defending herself) from the right wing's attack with the edited version omitting the word "Really". I don't believe the AP intended to put up the unedited version. .

Blast, you are SPOT ON. I wonder who the 'con lackey was that edited the video at Faux News. I'd like to find out - from them - why they edited it that way. Was it a request from upper management, or did they act independently?

Cheers,
Symbiot.

What people mean by "I love my country" is "I like my country". Of course both McCain and Michelle like the United States. McCain wouldn't be running for president if he didn't, and Michelle would not be supporting her husband's run if she didn't. This issue is more political hogwash. But it was the anti-Obama crowd that first took a bath in it, and to me that justified putting the shoe on the other foot.

The best evidence of a person's affection for and support of his country is that he works to improve it. False evidence is that he wants to keep it like it is, warts and all.

This is why it's powerful to use Google to spread the truth about candidates. If their real truth is on the front page of Google they can't hide from it: http://www.reputationdefenderblog.com/2008/06/22/googlebombing-john-mccain-the-new-form-of-negative-campaigning/

Well done!

First of all, Cindy McCain did not in the least question Michelle Obama's patriotism. Well done pulling that straight out of Drudge, but next time look into the actual facts before ranting about something you know nothing about on national television. Cindy McCain said she doesn't know what Michelle meant (she was asked about it) but added that she herself has always been proud of America. That's not one bit a knock on Michelle, nothing. Another play in the liberal playbook I see, right up there with John McCain's faux outrage-inducing "100 years of a non-American-killing war".

Second, saying he didn't really love America until deprived of her company is very different from saying you've only just become proud of your country when your husband became a viable Presidential candidate. The former shows that he realized how "spoiled" he had been and came to become proud of the opportunities and liberties he had had, while the latter shows that she had been ungrateful all along for all the opportunities (Ivy League, becoming filthy rich, etc.) and only became proud of it because finally her egotistical wishes were being realized.

Obama supporters have displayed a real ability to ignore facts, honesty, and reason in their writing about his opponenets. Spin and distort, attack without consideration of the argument they seek to counter. Obama supporters are not comfortable with a reasoned and reasonable discussion, any disagreement with Obama is seen as an attack.

What's really sad is that in American politics it gets down to: "My daddy is bigger and stronger than your daddy." And then a guy gets elected who takes the entire nation's grandchildren into heavy debt, devalues the dollar so much that the average American salary (which has been dropping since late '70s) is equivalent to a Swiss toilet scrubber's, that people work more for less (those grand Bahama cruises -- the idea of vacation -- one week tops, folks! Aren't we the Greatest Nation!?)

So we can bicker who loves America MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE or we can ask who's gonna make me live better. For me, I'd vote for a Martian who doesn't even speak English if he'd increase America's wages (if America's wages grew like CEO pay (let's not even go to hedge-fund moguls) minimum wage would be $23, which it should be), make us work less, give us environmentally sustainable policy, reduce military-industrial complex, curb health care, reign in corporate greed, and stop thinking of presidency in general as being commander-in-chief (very medieval, dont you think?) , --- I'd vote for him/her/it.

It's a simple good guy, bad guy thing isn't it? In no way could Michelle Obama have pleased by the fact that people were looking at the content of her husband's character and not the color of his skin huh? Calling her egotistical just because the her husbands campaign lead to her comment is ridiculous. Your complaint about McCain's "100 years of war is just as unfair as Obama's "I'm really proud of my country". They're BS campaign tactics and that's all.

I didn't love drilling in ANWAR until I run for president.

I didn't love creating the tax cuts permanent until I run for president.

I was a maverick until I run for president.

I was independent until I run for president.

I liked lobyst (like Charles Keating during the S & L fiasco) until I got caught helping him and budding up with them.

Anyone care to finish this....

MCCAIN DID NOT LOVE AMERICA UNTIL HE HE WAS A VIETNAM PRISONER? YES! HE SAID THAT ON TAPE
10:55 AM on 06/22/2008
i guess the only true sign of patriotism is not being a brave war hero, but hating the president and attending trinity church of chicago and john mccain does fail those two critical tests!
02:46 PM on 06/23/2008
He was not a war hero. He was a prisoner of war. There is a difference whether you know it or not. According to him, he received much better treatment than the other POW because of who is father and grandfather were.

let me just put this out there.

the middle east is a mess,
and will always be a mess.
our presence there only exasperates everything.

the iran/israel nuclear stand off is a terrible mess.
russia is now backing iran in the matter.
the question then becomes this:

is israel worth blowing up the whole world?
should all of america and all of russia explode the blue planet
in radiation, because of israel?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

methinks that america could have spent half of the money
they (we) spent on iraq and have developed an alternative fuel source.

huffington, these thoughts are incendiary in politics,
but just the plain wide open ocean of truth.

So why is McCain such an angry person? You will see a HUGE DOUBLE-STANDARD on how Mrs. Obama and Senator McCain's comments are perceived. The double-standard will have absolutely nothing to do with military service.

When I enlisted in the Navy in 1955 at age 18, I was given a questionnaire that asked: "Why are you joining the Navy?" The answer I chose was: For love of God and Country.

So evidently McSame McCain didn't love either God or Country when he went into the Naval Academy, yet he was raised a military child. "Military Brast" I think we called them then.

Maybe McCain wasn't given the same questionnaire I was, or maybe he chose a different answer.

Given his zealous support for the Islamic state of Iraq, evidently he's still not sure that he loves America. He certainly doesn't like the US Constitution.
