A New InsiderAdvantage / PollPosition survey conducted June 18 of registered likely voters in the November presidential contest shows Sen. John McCain leading Sen. Barack Obama by a single point in Georgia, making the race in Georgia a statistical tie. Libertarian Bob Barr, a former Republican Congressman from Georgia, received 6 percent of the vote. ...

The Results:

McCain: 44%
Obama: 43%
Barr: 6%
Undecided: 7%

Analysis from InsiderAdvantage CEO Matt Towery:

"As Barack Obama has become the clear presumptive nominee of his party, the race has become defined and voters appear to be taking early stands in the race.

"Georgia is competitive for Obama for several reasons. First, it has a high African-American voting age population (VAP). Second, it has an unusually high percentage of younger voters (18-29). Both of these groups are more in the Obama camp, with black voters already at the 83 percent level and likely to climb.

"Equally important, like its neighbor Florida, Georgia has a high percentage of voters who consider themselves independent. Obama is carrying that critical swing vote by about 10 percent in the poll.

We have this attack on the 4th amendment and he skirts around the 1st with his "I don't believe in censorship but..." statement. Add his change in stance on public financing and NAFTA.

Then we have his backing a candidate in a Democratic Congressional primary in GA who "supports policies such as the war in Iraq and President Bush's tax cuts, which Obama and Thomas (the other Democratic candidate) oppose." What's up with that? http://savannahnow.com/node/519033

So much for a clear vision...or Change...or Hope for that matter. Do you see why some of us are hesitant to blindly support this guy?

pubayer, Barrow endorsed Obama in the Primaries, Thomas did not until he was nominated. I think Obama is scratching Barrow's back because he had his back. That's politics.

I wish I lived in a state that wasn't already going for McCain. I'd like my vote to count in a close election. I think it's safe to say that McCain has Alabama locked down.

I feel the same way. I live in Arizona but I'm still hoping......don't understand the Bush-McCain mentality of those who live here.

I live about an hour from Georgia. Obama isn't tied with McCain in Georgia. McCain will win that state easily. Trust me. The black vote will not turn out like he hopes it will. They never do.

The black vote WILL turn out; are you kidding? Senator Obama may or may not win Georgia, but be assured the black folks will be voting in droves as they should be. Finally, some of them feel proud of America and if Obama's elected I will be proud too.

I live in Atlanta, and let me tell you GA is Obama Country. This state is as red as you can get, but even the Republicans and Independents are so sick of Bush/McCain. Plus, Bob Barr is an independent's dream, and will siphon votes away from McCain. Runteldat!

Maybe Atlanta is but the areas surrounding Atlanta will go for McCain. I have family that live off the Jodeco, Flippen exit and that whole area will go for McCain. Hudson Bridge and McDonough too. The black vote will only come out in Atlanta. Lakewood could go for Obama but it depends if the black vote comes out which I don't believe it will.

Maybe my vote will actually matter this year. God, I wish we could get rid of Saxby, too. Although, we do have electronic voting machines with no paper trail.

I'm in Kansas. KANSAS, of all places.

We could be blue too. And on NPR this morning, they were already pushing BHO's Kansas roots to remind people that he IS one of us (or at least he cares about people who are).

Nice. But too early to pop champagne. Unless Obama pulls ahead by 5, 6 points, I don't think McDubya is going to sweat.

You could be right. Independents who are of the libertarian cloth may choose a protest vote because McCain's stance on Iraq, Gitmo etc. Had Barr's name been washed under like Nader's (shhh), libertarians might have voted for McCain out of preference for smaller government (not that he would deliver).

Go Barr-ack Obama!! lol

If Georgia goes to Obama, it's over. A win there will cause the red state electoral map crack that will split into a complete Obama landslide. Add to this the fact that Ron Paul and Bob Barr seem to be cozying up, McCain could be in deep doo-doo in other red states too.

Ga and Virginia and possibly NC! Its already over! I just cant wait until the reps and others realize that the electoral map of the old election cycles may be obsolete! Keep your eyes on the south and mid-atlantic...just like in the primaries its gonna be O'bama country! Watch and see!

In the mean time we need to go to every right wing outlet and push Barr! Lets call it Operation Karma! LOL LOL
