Peggy Noonan is apparently freaking out. Somewhere (probably in her Upper East Side apartment, probably chewing a piece of Nicorette) she is sitting in front of a computer screen, staring into cyberspace, thinking she has done something catastrophic. And really it's unfortunate, this dilemma she finds herself in, because she'd been on an uninterrupted tear of late.

This spring, her Wall Street Journal column, "Declarations," has generated more Internet traffic for Rupert Murdoch than any other regularly scheduled feature in the paper. At the end of April, NBC anchor Brian Williams wrote on his blog that Noonan deserved to win the Pulitzer Prize for her musings on Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. The staff of The New York Times has been buzzing with speculation that she's about to get a column there.

And the attention is nice, even if the rumor might not be true, even if a recent lunch with Times' editorial page editor Andy Rosenthal was just that (lunch), and even if the job might not actually be in the offing. Certainly no one was talking about a Times column as a possibility for Noonan two years ago. Then, she was midheap in a pile of conservative pundits when patience with the breed was running thin among readers.

As vapid as all those vapid cliches she spit out for her Ronnie.

An administration of lies and ignorant nostalgia for an America that
never existed anyway.
Like Raygun at the liberation of death camps.

The current problems with the American/world economy can be laid
at the dead feet of Ron Raygun, the man who turned America into a debtor
nation in 1986. Mr Deregulation. Mr. Pay the Bill Later.

And Noonan, far from winning a freaking Pulitzer Prize should still be in prison.

Do people not remember the incredible spin the White House would spit daily
as death squads did their business throughout Central America?

Does anyone remember how bad it really was?

the Ray-publicans needed their JFK so Peggy went out and made
a legend out of a guy who slept through history while Peggy Noonan
filled in the huge gaps in his thinking. Then the rest of the RNC went
out and hired a liberal journalist to legitimize and immortalize the "Sleeping Lion".

The grand dame deva has left her right wing mark on NPR.
She's in charge of news and it shows. This is an election
year and she was put in that spot as a one person republican spin
machine. Everyone's amazed that a right winger is not marching
in lockstep as if it's some kind of revelation. When it comes to the
right wing it is but that's not saying a hell of a lot. BTW, what's her name again?

Her coumns are mostly her practice of overusing the language and writing essays in grade school.
I hardly can finish reading them, so boring..her fakeput ons on television shows are simply hillarous.

Don't believe anything in that story that hints at any change of mind.
Noonan was out to get Hillary and she did. That's it, the thoughtful
critic, the ray-publican non-robot conservative will forget the wild spending
her party did for the last eight years as soon as she finds another
Reagan to believe in. She will forget all the corruption, everything
her party did wrong as soon as she finds another conservative hero
that will make her heart beat fast. Noonan is very smart and
she will not disappoint her republican base.

Sorry, I can't stand authors who are so enamoured of their own voices that they can't get to the point. I don't have all day to read one nine page article.

So what WAS the point of the article?

okay, let me just put this out there:

israel has a lot of nuclear bombs.
they, and the u.s., don't want iran to have them.
russia doesn't want anyone interfereing with iran.

let me pose this question -
is israel worth blowing up planet earth?

is it worth, for the u.s. and russia, and israel and iran,
to all go head to head to prove who is more "manly"
and thusly, ruin life on planet earth, for all people for all time,
over america's and israel's fears over an iran nuclear program.

how sickeningly low is your life,
that you'd rather ruin life for all people,
for all time, just because you can.

please, all of police forces, and all of military,
arrest all republicans, before they ruin planet earth for everyone.

p.s. capitalistic arrogance will be the death of us all.

Try religious arrogance Sparky.

And please tell us who would destroy the planet?

When did Israel try? Please remind us. Yet daily we hear the Muslim
threats to destroy America, The West and Israel.

So, who is the threat and who will be the first one to push the button?
It will be a Muslim fanatic. And then that country will be turned into glass.

Russia??? Since America will be providing missile shields to former Soviet puppets,
Putin will soon be afraid to appear in public.

Ukraine, etc. do not like Russia. They will get in bed with America.

Joke is on Vlad.

Peggy it happened for you 20 years ago when you helped formulate the Reaganism . That was the highpoint of conservatism. Well it"s over. The American people have figured it out. Now move on with your life. We have.

Noonan's affected portrayal of "upper class-ness" is hilarious when one reads that she comes from "dirty" working class Brooklyn roots. It's always types like her who go to such great lengths to try and deny the reality of their pasts. She is ashamed of where she comes from, and her vile Republicanism is an attempt to deny it via intense identification with those born to money.

You have pretty much defined the Republican Party.

Ignorant materialists.

I'm not a fan of PN's purple prose and verbal excesses (not to mention her politics). Here she is waxing poetic on Bush's "Mission Accomplished" moment:

"It wasn't just it was showy, it was showbiz, it was 'Top Gun,' it was Tom Cruise's suit, it was all that wonderful stuff. It's that the American president not only put himself in harm's way going to see American troopers, but he showed them by coming in on that ship 'I trust you'. . . . You're going to take care of me. You're going to hit that second trap, the third trap, or the fourth. I'm safe in your hands."

Utter drivel.

This link is when Peggy was still in love with li'l George and Laura. It's the First Lady and the First Primate talking about 9/11 and how it ended in laughter for them. Sounded like Peggy didn't want to puke like I did when I heard what they were saying. She also didn't seem to give any indication that she was in the presence of sociopaths. Yes, this is from Michael Moore's website, but you can Google for other references to the LHJ's story.
