McCain's Mom Gets Another Speeding Ticket

Even skyrocketing gas prices aren't slowing down Roberta McCain, the indefatigable 96-year-old mother of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

The would-be first mother -- and yes, she fully expects her Johnny to win the presidency in November -- is still speeding around like a NASCAR driver on the last lap.

At a cocktail party held at the luxurious home of GOP super lobbyist Wayne Berman recently, Mrs. McCain gave the Sleuth some advice: "Don't speed up there (in Chevy Chase)."

Really? "Yes, I got a $40 speeding ticket there a few weeks ago," she said with a wry smile and a twinkle in her eye that suggested "I've still got it!"

Other than the fact that a wealthy, politically connected 96 year-old woman who is either unwilling or unable to drive within the speed limit still has her license to drive, what is the point of posting this article at all, let alone under the section designated "POLITICS"? I could understand this kind of fluff being passed off as relative by FOX News, CNN or any other mainstream corporate media outlet, but on The Huffington Post? Perhaps the monitors should divert some of their attention from censoring comments and devote more time to good old-fashioned editing.

My F-I-L drove up to 96 yrs. old, was in tip top shape at that age.

The original artlcle states, "Sen. McCain often invokes his mother's spotty driving record on the campaign trail. One of his favorite stories is how Mom, about two years ago, got a ticket for going 112 mph in Arizona." To me that is reckless driving! What if she hit a loaded school bus going that fast?

First of all, 96 yr old people have no business speeding- their reflexes aren't quick enough. Second of all, she seems so proud of her recklessness. When was the last time she got checked out by a physician to ok her driving? Seniors over 70 should have to be tested every year- physical test and a driving test.

I'm a total Obama supporter and I think McCain is out of touch with the country (but so are most Republicans.) But I think the fact his mother made it 96 years and still gets speeding tickets AND still remembers where the speed traps are is quite a feat in of itself.


I hope to God I'm still driving anything at 96, even a wheelchair.


Stop the ageism and give these elderly a little respect.

I give the elderly a lot of respect and concern. I have one living in my house right now. But I also expect them to obey the law and not make jokes about endangering others. That's the kind of behavior usually seen in teenagers.

Keep our family members, old and young, safe.

Each time I see her photo, I think she and her son look more like husband and wife.

He looks as old as she does.

And the old lady should not be driving.

She may have great eyesight as most seniors do after they have had medical procedures done

BUT her reflexes are not good enough for driving safely.

So why is she still driving?

legislators are afraid of taking on senior voters.

Thirty years ago there was a referendum to build public transportation for Scottsdale.

It failed. Look at their crazy traffic problems now. Look at the large numbers of old drivers

toddling around causing accidents.

This is th case for another older person being too unsafe to be on the road. At 96 it sounds like she is not any safer than she was when she was younger but the very idea she takes pride in speeding means she has less reasons than most elderly to be still driving. There should be laws to test the elderly drives to protect the citizens around them from them. Also you can see where he got his looks....sad story and it's a matter of time before she really hurts or kills someone on the road. Then her Johhny can get her off just like he got Cindy off when she stole drugs from the non profit she helped run.
