But as the world (or anyone who reads Anna Wintour's editor's letters) now knows, Vogue's access to Clinton was cut off, either because it was deemed too feminine or too elitist. It was Reed who'd borne the burden: months of convincing Clinton's aides and more months on the campaign trail. "Let me just say, it's not the most fun thing in the world to have breakfast a million times with [communications director] Howard Wolfson," she said. "The man is the most charmless human being on the planet, and I'm sitting there sucking up to him."

The original deal, she said, included an interview with Clinton and a Leibovitz photo shoot for the December 2007 issue at the Clintons' Chappaqua, N.Y., home. After thinking everything was set, Reed months later was informed the deal was off. She said she was told, "We already have the women's vote in the bag," and that Wolfson said, '"We thought we were going to be in a bigger dogfight. We don't need you anymore.' This was right before Iowa. What an idiot!"

Back the h*ll off HRC. She has been through enough scrutiny. She didn't want to be known as the female candidate any more than Obama wanted to be seen as the black candidate. Grow up!

I guess she never met Harold Ickes!

The snub may have to do with the amorous relationship that Wintour had with columnist Christopher Hitchens.in the 1970s. They may very well continue their friendship. Hitchens has penned an arsenic laced vitriol contra Former First Family for all their dirty misdeeds. What is so surprising that the Clintons do not want the scrutiny of a Hitchens-ite? See video below and just google wintour/hitchens.

Give me a break...vouge does not shape anyones electability...good for Hillary to snub them. Hillary Clinton is not the type one sees coming off of the page of Vogue.

Of course she's not the Vogue type. Hillary, according to campaign appearances and statements made, is just a 'lil 'ol country gal from Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania......just fill in the blanks on the appropriate campaign stops.

Then why not just say so before long negotiations with them? Then why say it wasn't necessary because she already had the votes of women 'in the bag'?

If this story is on the up-and-up, then what did Hillary say that is NOT true?

Yeah! "As far as I know" Hillary ALWAYS speaks the truth.

I don't think her not appearing on their cover was a catastrophe to her campaign. I don't think it would have helped either...

Leave it to HuPo to print a single sourced item from the gossip page of WWD and treat it as gospel.

Here's an idea: wire up one of the Off the Bus vigilantes a la Linda Tripp and have them make a lunch date with Wolfson to get his side of the story.

I nominate Mayhill Fowler. She's sleazy enough to do it, and Wolfson won't recognize her just like Bubba didn't.

I don't believe a syllable of this. Sounds to me like someone at Vogue got their knickers in a twist because their little article and photoshoot couldn't be jammed into a packed campaign schedule, so now it's sour grapes. And why not print it? A headline grabber for the magazine and who's going to question the veracity? It's so fashionable to bash the Clintons, isn't it?

Fashionable to bash the Clintons?

Nothing 'fashionable' about speaking our minds.

Brittle, brittle, brittle. Hillary should have considered the difference between palm trees (flexible) and oaks (tough but inflexible). Finally, her behavior bespeaks a wretched arrogance that is the flip-side of responsible self-confidence. It wouldn't have hurt her one bit to have shared her views with a prominent national women's magazine. Surely she must have known that. At any rate, it's part of her "herstory" now.

I just wish she'd get a fashion life beyond those boring pants-suits. B O R I N G. Maybe Speaker Pelosi could do the same thing. Men wear pants because they don't have the option of going about their business in kilts, except maybe in Scotland. A little sartorial variety is nice. Back to you, Hillary.

Amazingly clueless geezer. You diss Julia Reed, you diss all (well-dressed) southern women. Reed fans are legion. And now we're really pissed with Charmless Jerk Guy. Pray he never shows up in Atlanta looking for a job, now that he's out of one. He'll never eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner in this (deep Dem pocketed) town. Mark my word.

Indicative of a campaign based on Washington hook-ups, disingenuousness, divisiveness, spin and complacency.

Women should be offended by a candidate who assumes they'll vote for her because she's a woman. I would love to see Hillary in a race with another qualified woman, perhaps someone who didn't need her husband's name and connections to get where she is.

Women who want tips on how to be a successful candidate for federal party leadership ought to look elsewhere and see that, yes, it is possible, and blaming (or USING) sexism is just kind of a goofy "easy way out" rather than considering the real issues.

Try Alexa McDonough, former leader of the Federal New Democratic Party of Canada, for instance. Politically speaking, I think she would run circles around HRC in any issues-based debate about things commonly affecting progressive thinkers across both sides of the border. But my lefty bias, and Canadian-ness somewhat predetermine that asessement.
