LOS ANGELES — Mr. Big is out, and Mr. Goldblum is in.

Jeff Goldblum will be joining "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" while Chris Noth _ Mr. Big in the "Sex and the City" TV show and movie _ is leaving after three seasons, a series spokeswoman said Thursday.

"Criminal Intent," part of the "Law & Order" franchise that includes the original series and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," recently was picked up for a 16-episode eighth season by USA Network.

"Jeff's presence will add a new dimension to an already successful show," series creator Dick Wolf said.

Noth's character, New York police Detective Mike Logan, was a member of the "Law & Order" family since the start, Wolf noted, adding, "We all wish him the best."

Noth played Logan on the original NBC series from 1990 to '95, in a "Law & Order" TV movie and then on "Criminal Intent" starting in 2005. The show's seventh season airs Sundays on USA.

A call requesting comment from Noth was not immediately returned by his representative.

Goldblum recently starred in the short-lived NBC series "Raines" but is mostly known as a film actor with credits that include "Jurassic Park," "The Lost World," "Independence Day" and "The Fly."

He shared an Academy Award nomination in 2005 for the live-action short film "Little Surprises."

"Criminal Intent" originally aired on NBC. But when the network decided that last season's schedule had room for only two of the shows a deal was struck to air "Criminal Intent" first on USA, then on NBC.

NBC and USA are corporate cousins within NBC Universal, and "Criminal Intent" reruns on USA already had proved among its most popular programming.

"Criminal Intent," which looks at cases from both the perspective of police and lawbreakers, stars Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe and Eric Bogosian.

I'm guessing Wolf and Noth had another falling out. Wolf seems to be on the warpath lately judging by the turnover on the other L&Os. Goldblum has had a good run for somebody who once had a show called "Ten Speed and Brownshoe." As for Vince, he's simply overdoes the neurotic Sherlock Holmes schtick. I do think Eric Bogosian is a step up from Jamey Sheridan.

Although Noth was better when paired with a guy cop. There was just a better and wittier back and forth. Jeff Goldblum - doesn't do it for me. I will always be a Chris Noth fan. Noth, Michael Moriarty, Brooks, Beltzer, and Lenny were the best those shows had to offer. There are not replaceable

On a "very special Law and Order," David Duchovny can appear as Jeff Goldblum's fraternal twin. His impression of Goldblum is terrific.

Goldblum playing a tough guy would be kind of worth watching.

that show is so dour and brooding that it is barely watchable...perhaps jeff goldblum will bring an air of self deprication to the show.

Say it ain't so! I was hoping that McCoy could make an appearance on CI, so we could see if Logan and he ever just forget the niceties, and haul off and slug each other...or, if they drown thier differances in a 12 pack. Now its never gonna happen...
Jeff Goldblum? YEECH!

Actually Chris Noth was what made me watch Sex in the City in the first place. I love the ones with D'Onofrio and Erbe, I put up with the others because, hey, it was Chris Noth. But without him? Guess I'll only be watching half the season off Criminal Intent.

Oh well, there are always the reruns on Bravo and USA.

When are these television shows stop putting PRETTY faces on....all the women with low cut blouses...so skinny they look like they could blow away with a slight breeze...

I gave up watching the model show until Noth came back ....though his partner wasn't real.... now he's gone....

WERE ARE THE ACTORS????

I'll just rent a movie....an old movie....or read a book....

As said above NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It took me so long to get over Noth leaving L&O the first time. And I miss Jerry Orbach, and now Jesse Martin is gone. Sob.

I could picture Witt partnering with Donofrio and telling him "can you be a little less weird today?" I like her attitude in this role.

I am still a huge fan of SVU and really love to see the offbeat characters of Munch and Tutuola. I wish they wouldn't try to be that other show and show the gross corpses so much. Did I hear somewhere that DA Cabot is coming back - that would be great!

I'll take L&O CI over L&O SVU anytime. The egotism of that talentless twit, Mariska Hargitay, turned me off that show two years ago.

Noth did the right thing, this opens him up to do other work outside of the stuff he is known for. If he is happy with it, so am I. I wish him and his new lady, and baby well. The guy is a class act.
