The Carpetbagger Report:

Just this week, a group of Republican senators re-introduced the Federal Marriage Amendment to the Constitution, which, as we know, would ban gay marriage.

This isn't especially surprising. Republicans are looking at the political landscape, and they're feeling awfully discouraged. The polls look bad, the base looks depressed, and fundraising looks iffy. Rallying the far-right troops with an anti-gay amendment to the Constitution -- even though it has no chance at even getting so much as a hearing -- might be helpful to the conservative movement.

But the funny part is looking over the list of the 10 original sponsors. Most of the names are predictable -- Brownback and Inhofe, for example -- but there are two others whose names stand out: Sens. David Vitter (R-La.) and Larry Craig (R-Idaho).

Yes, two of the principal sponsors of a constitutional amendment to "protect" marriage include one far-right Republican who hired prostitutes and another far-right Republican who was arrested for soliciting gay sex an airport men's room.

I pass. This is just too easy of a setup for remarks. I'll just use my imagination.

Craig and Vitter co-sponser a bill for "sanctity of marriage"........
This comedy writes itself! If they want to "protect and encourage" marriages like the ones they have... then please first see if their respective wives want to continue to protect THEIR sham marriages before you sentence the rest of us to those sorts of relationships.

This falls under the definition of hypocrisy. When will the Red state, God fearing, salt of the earth Americans realize the GOP are using them to make themselves rich and they do not care about morality? As usual its another red herring to distract and confuse the public. As it is I am confused as how the GOP can use two senators disgraced by sexual scandals beyond the norm as sex scandals go, to push for anti gay legislation? I don't know whether to laugh cry or throw up.

Absolutely. A known phillanderer teaming up with an alleged 'closet Homosexual' teaming up to save the institution of marriage. How twisted is that?

I have a better "Protect Marriage Amendment", ban all divorces and see how quickly they run from that one!

This bill must be designed to protect Larry Craig"s marriage. After all, if gay marriage were legalized, and Craig has a gay lover, he could pressure Craig to divorce his wife and marry him. In other words, it would be "put up or shut up" time. We couldn"t have that, now could we?

Remember, the safety of our country depends upon the passage of this bill. Just recall the dire warnings from the Christian Reich about this, including the pronouncement that Hurricane Katrina was New Orleans" punishment for allowing a gay event to occur in the city. One can only wonder what egregious sins Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri have committed to "deserve" the recent horrible flooding.

And consider the following news flash from three years ago, "On July 20, 2005, Canada became the fourth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide with the approval of the Civil Marriage Act." Maybe nature hasn"t yet unleashed her fury on the north country, but if the christofascists are correct, it is only a matter of time before Canada becomes a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.

Perhaps Vitter signed on just to add some "credibility" to the bill?

Even Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert couldn"t make up something this outrageously hilarious.

Anyone have any info regarding other Senators jumping onto their bandwagon or rather, joining Vitter and Craig in a men's room stall to participate in this pathetic farce?

BITE YOUR TONGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE DON'T WANT HIM IN THE GAY COMMUNITY! Sorry about the shouting. It just grosses me out to even think about this guy being gay.

If ou wanna get grossed out, picture him as a card carrying member of your 'community', strutting in a 'Gay' Pride Parade decked out in arseless leather chaps. This should give you some insight into how a humongous proportion of the straight 'community' views the whole lot of you.

Or in the words of Jon Stewart, "California now allows gays to get married, yet it still exists......by the way, why is God taking it out on the midwest?"

Is this a test run to determine the effectiveness of the corporate news media in coverning their sorry rear ends?

If no firestorm of public outcry erupts, the Hard Reich can be assured that either the news media is doing its job, most people have single-digit IQs, or both.

Although I'd love to be mistaken, look for this story to never appear in the mainstream or if it does, to disappear quickly. If this story goes away quickly and quietly, all is safe for the theocorpotocracy to proceed with business as usual.

No, they don't. Their role model, the vice president, shot his friend in the face, and he didn't have any shame, so they don't think they should either.
