Bill Clinton Speaking

The Telegraph:

Bill Clinton is so bitter about Barack Obama's victory over his wife Hillary that he has told friends the Democratic nominee will have to beg for his wholehearted support.

Mr Obama is expected to speak to Mr Clinton for the first time since he won the nomination in the next few days, but campaign insiders say that the former president's future campaign role is a "sticking point" in peace talks with Mrs Clinton's aides.

The Telegraph has learned that the former president's rage is still so great that even loyal allies are shocked by his patronising attitude to Mr Obama, and believe that he risks damaging his own reputation by his intransigence.

A senior Democrat who worked for Mr Clinton has revealed that he recently told friends Mr Obama could "kiss my ass" in return for his support.

I guess anonymous sources got slapped down. It won't matter though. The snarly dogs are unleashed.

Bill Clinton is done. Stick a fork in him.

It's ironic that he both doesn't seem to realize that Obama is bigger than him -- the real version of what Bill was just a simulation of -- and therefore doesn't need Bill; yet at the same time he's clearly incredibly jealous of Obama for exactly that.

Easy on ol' Bill. There's a story in Huffington that contradicts this one. I think AP and Huffington blew it by commiting this story to ink.

since Bill was our first black President, I'm surprised he didn't tell O to "kiss my black ass" . Come to think of it, it could have been worse--he could have asked Obama for a Lewinsky kiss.... poor Hillary, once again the spouse stuck acting like an adult.

If Bill did in fact say that, as lousy as it is, what good does it do for the party, expecially after Thursday, for these Dems who claim to have heard it to go spreading it around?
Can they honestly say that their gossip-mongering is helping unify anything?

and if what they really want is for Bill to move on and get it over it, then isn't the best way of making that happen to ignore him when he says those kinds of things.
It's like rewarding bad behavior. You need to teach little brats that they only get your attention when they're doing good.
If everyone would just start ignoring his outbursts, I think he would eventually learn that the only way for him to be included is if he's willing to be a team player.

You just kind of have to wonder the motives of these people who give the media these stories.

Are they just anti-Hillary's trying to keep her from the VP slot or just to tarnish her further through her husband regardless of the damage it might do to party unity?
Are they Repubs in Democratic clothing?

Yes, it was Bill Clinton who said it and who should be solely responsible for what he says, but isn't a bit irresponsible too of these supposed Democrats who go unnecessarily publicizing something that was said in a private setting? What good does it do anyone? Not Bill. Not Hillary. Not Barrack. Not Democrats. Not us.

Bill Clinton was a good politician and not an entirely bad president. After GWB, he really looks great. But he is overrated. If he remasins so arrogant about himself, he can be dropped. Nobody has to kiss his stupid ass. If he had been a decent man, he couldn't have been given all the trrrouble he got from the Republicans; and he wouldn't have left so many with that bad taste in their mouths. In 2000, all too many werte voting against him even though he wasn't on the ballot.

Hey Bill. Kiss mine. We don't need you and we would prefer you keep your distance and jerk ••• in the corner. What a narcissist. Hey Bill, you were impeached for making an ass of yourself. You were not elected second term with anything near a popular vote. I don't want your support. We can do this just fine with you.

donttasemebro: I couldn't reply to your post (marked favorite), and though I agree with the spirit of your sentiments, and I don't want to be nit-picky, I do take exception to some of your points:

1. Senator Obama is MORE white than black? It's true that Senator Obama's mother was white and he was raised by his white grandparents. It's also true that his lineage is mixed, as is the lineage of most African Americans. But in America, Senator Obama is a black man, as are all African Americans regardless of our ancestral or genetic background, which leads to my other concern with your post:

2. President Clinton TURNED him into a black candidate? Senator Obama IS a black candidate. What President Clinton tried to do was to marginalize Senator Obama as 'the black candidate." In other words, he attempted to suggest that the only reason Senator Obama won in S.C. is because he's black. President Clinton did not TURN Senator Obama into a black candidate, but he did attempt to exploit the racial fears and racial divide in America by raising the spectre of Senator Obama's race as a matter of consideration. In fact, if there is credibility to this article, President Clinton is probably still convinced that a black man will not be elected to the presidency, which is why he is "unhopeful" about Obama's electability prospects.

Otherwise, I definitely agree with the essence of your post.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply.
When I said he was more white than black I was not speaking genetically, but rather culturally. Having a white mother and an absent black father and being raised by his white grandparents makes him more culturally white than black in my opinion. Btw I disagree with the tradition in this country that any amount of AA blood in your lineage automatically makes you black. If you're 51% white and 49% other, that should make you white in my opinion.
On the second point, correct me if I am wrong, but BO did not start out running as the black candidate. I think he would have been just as happy if the question had never come up at all, but it did, and the person who brought it up was WJC.

I agree. Senator Obama did not run as the black candidate. But my point was that he is a black candidate nonetheless, and it did not take Bill Clinton or anyone else to TURN him into what he already is. What Bill Clinton did was with the sole intent of reminding the white electorate that Senator Obama is black (not that anyone needed to be reminded of this), and he did it for the sole purpose of dividing us. I also agree with you about the one-drop law, but it's a law that white America established to define us by race, and as such it has also defined our experience in America. Therefore, in spite of Senator Obama's background, and my own background as an African American with both white and Native American lineage, in America, we are black, defined by the color of our skin and our common experience. I am sure that we both agree that Senator Obama does not want to be embraced as "the black candidate," not because he denies his heritage, but because he is an American, and except for the color of his skin, he is no different and no less deserving of our regard for him than any other American. In fact, he is the epitome of the American Candidate, and Bill Clinton, of all people, the former President of the United States of America, should be ashamed for trying to use race to diminish Senator Obama's candidacy.

"A second source said that the former president has kept his distance because he still does not believe Mr Obama can win the election."

...unless he kisses his a$$?

Before he endorsed Barack Obama, before he drew the wrath of the Clintons and was likened to Judas, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson nearly endorsed Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.

But Richardson hesitated, and as the Democratic campaign turned ugly, he grew angry. There was that "3 a.m." TV ad, in which Clinton questioned Obama's personal mettle. "That upset me", Richardson said.

"I think the Clintons have a feeling of entitlement ... that the presidency was theirs", Richardson said, and the persistent lobbying from "Washington establishment types" convinced him of a need for some fresher faces inside the Beltway.

The two Bills have not spoken since. Bill (Clinton) told people he was upset that Bill (Richardson) did not call him (did not "kiss his a$$"). The governor said he tried to call him, but never got through.

Perhaps he would have gotten through if he had called at 3:00 A.M.?

Bill Clinton needs to suck it up...and STOP sulking and shooting off his mouth!

OBAMA '08!
HOPE & CHANGE!

Stay safe, healthy and happy,
Love, Loretta

An anonymous "senior democrat who worked for Hillary" quoted in a Brit mullet wrapper? I don't think there is much credibility there. But if this turns out to be true and that source gets named, Bill Clinton will have written his political obituary.

WJC , Rep Charlie R of NY , Mark P , and the rest that gang are afaird they will not be able to continue with their business of collecting cash for pushing free trade agreements that send US jobs abroad . With his spoiled child approach he hopes the Obama group will grant him some concessions where he he can continue with business as usual . They will and are clandestinely supporting JM because it is in their best interest . Ask Charlie R , what happened to the uncounted voters ballots from Harlem .

Interesting. As much as Hillary complained about sexism throughout the campaign, most of the damage to her campaign was done by her own husband. He made some of the more inflammatory comments (i.e. Jesse Jackson-South Carolina; accusing Obama of playing the race card; accusing the media of persecuting him). And Bill is still undermining and sabotaging Hillary.

Over the years, I imagine that Hillary has held her tongue on many occasions in order to benefit Bill's career (i.e. Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky). So why can't Bill do the same thing for her? At this point, Hillary wants to be VP or hold some other prestigious position in an Obama administration. Now, Obama will think twice because he won't want the baggage of Hillary's egotistical loudmouth husband threatening to erupt at any moment. Why doesn't she just divorce him?

Right on! If she had divorced Bill, and then went to the Senate, I may (may) have voted for her. I never understood at the time why she would stay in a marriage with someone who does not respect her, and openly cheated on her time after time. After the fact, I feel she did it for her own political aspirations, not Bill's. Family values? Don't hold your breath waiting for Obama to pucker up. Bill should be the one to pucker up in front of the post office at high noon on pension day, and kiss the ars of the next president, Barack Obama!
