Gay Sets U.S. Record in 100 Meter Dash

Tyson Gay set a new U.S. record in the 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, beating Maurice Green's nine-year-old mark by .02 seconds.

Gay, the defending world champion in the 100 and 200 meters, covered the distance in 9.77 seconds at the trials in Eugene, Oregon

Gay's time was .05 seconds slower than the new world record of 9.72 seconds, set by Jamaica's Usain Bolt on May 31. The record came after Gay ran a 10.14 in his first race of the day to qualify 13th.
