CNN's Political Ticker:

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) gave a bleak outlook on the prospects for a Republican-led Senate in 2009.

"We are not going to be back in the majority in the Senate next year," said McConnell. "The numbers make that impossible."

...

Despite the GOP's troubles, McConnell remains hopeful about his party's chances and predicts they will hold most, if not all, of their seats. "I'm optimistic we can stay roughly where we are," he told Crowley. "We have a robust minority."

For 26 of the last 28 years repub-LIE-CONS have controled the whitehouse and/or congress. The national debt has gone from less than 1 trillion dollars to 9 trillion dollars. The CAFE standards have not been increased until 2008. This national is now the scorn of the world's nations and population. The only president to submit a balanced budget was President William Jefferson Clinton.

This is not a record of which to be proud..

Ya think, Mitch?

The cows are coming home indeed. Could it be the result of the rising police state? War in Iraq? Coming war on Iran? Tax cuts for the rich? Anti-vet legislation? Anti-SCHIP legislation? Hyper partisanship? Obstructionism? Junior's legacy? Budget busting? High energy prices? Wall Street bailouts and other corporate welfare including no-bid contracts? Corruption? The fact that you're a hot hunk of charismatic manhood?

Uhm, Senator? One way to come back into the majority is to look at how all of your failed policies have taken us to the brink of economic, environmental, and conflictual disaster around the globe and, you know, change them.

Republicans that I know tend to blame anything bad that occurred under Reagan as Carter's fault; then, anything good that happened under Clinton they credited to Reagan and Bush Sr.; then anything bad that happened under Junior's first 4 years was Clinton's fault. Now that your guy has been in office for over 7 years and the nation (and planet) is in utter chaos, deeply in a recession, and involved in a war with no end in sight, who are you all going to blame? Obama? You'll probably have to wait until he's been in office for at least 60 days before you can pass the buck. It's the polite thing to do.

And that is news. They knew what they were doing all along so why the surprise. Now FOX NEWS
is trying to distort the Obama's tax message. FOX asks such silly questions like "do you want
wealth distribution" and of course people will answer no thinking they get taxes. Advise to FOX,
pose a direct question and you get a direct answer! Of course, I and surely others are for a more
fair tax distribution, 28% I have to pay, now tax Warren Buffett the same percentage.
GOP is only looking out for their own good while bluffing the middle class.

I was watching a segment on on TV this morning in which two authors attempted to refute what they described as "myths" about conservatives. I was amused watching them struggle to reconcile the behavior of the Republicans in Congress and this Administration with the entire theory of conservatism (and I laughed outright when they said stated that conservatives were "cool").

I concluded that the problem that the Republicans have is their Party is supported by and filled to the brim and beyond with people whose "ideals" are simply camouflage for their lust for wealth.

They let nothing - not religion, morality, other people's children, or the ideals of "conservatism" - stand between them and money, whether it accumulated through ever more tax cuts as the nation decays, increasingly rapacious capitalism, or via out and and war profiteering.

I think that the Republicans have forgotten that humans - which includes Americans - are a social animal; they may be slow when acting as a group, but they always eventually recognize whatever threatens their well-being and move to eradicate it.

Unless the Republicans can look away from their bank accounts long enough to rejoin the human race, I think that they may have achieve what they least wanted: A permanent minority.

They say that memories are long - but memories combined with the internet's storage and easy availability are forever.

(lolll...foiling even efforts by groups like PNAC to quietly disappear into the concealing dark of history.)

No duh, Sherlock. The real question is not whether the Democrats will win a majority in the Senate, but whether their majority will be big enough to override the inevitable GOP filibusters.
