I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Free Credit

Is anyone else obsessed with the FreeCreditReport.com commercials? I am, possibly out of sheer repetition because they show up so damn often on all the cable news channels. But more likely because they're awesome. They also give good advice — not only that you should know your credit rating before you buy a car and end up driving next to hot girls, but also that you should always dress for the job you want, and that it's prudent to wear a bib when cracking lobster.

Anyhow! The "rôle principal" is played by one Eric Violette who, as it turns out, is a French Canadian acteur from Quebec (check out his CV en PDF, he's done quite a bit of theater since graduating from École nationale de théâtre du Canada in 2003). From the phone number on his website it looks like he lives in Montreal; and now I am going to stop reporting random facts about him, except that his taille is 5'10", his poids is 170, and his yeux are brun. Mon Français est bon!

So — in honor of Eric, Canada Day, and my dad, who I found out also loves these commercials (he cracks up at the granny eating lobster), I bring you the trifecta of FreeCreditReport.com commercials, starring a Canadian. Bonne journeé!

He is cute but he is not the real singer.
The real singer is Nick Rosendahl.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm certainly not obssessed with those commercials. If anything, I'd say my attitude vis a vis (from the French!) them is one of feeling extremely overexposed to the point of ennui (again, from the French!).

And to Mr. Rachel Sklar's Dad, what's so crackin' about the crustacean-chowing groovin' granny? But we do offer our merci for your role in the creation and development of our favorite commenter on all things media. Happy Canada Day!

I love these commercials!!!! And Eric Violette is a really nice guy and talented actor (he's a friend of mine, so I know). What's wrong with a commerical with a catchy tune that eveyone sings and with a lead singer eveyone thinks is HOT????????????

Rachel, thanks for this article. And keep watching your TV--Eric has just finished the next set of free credit report commercials and he tells me they're better than the first ones.

I apologize as I seem to have offended. There's nothing wrong with the commercials per se, but like all successful commercials, the IDEA IS to overexpose us and thereby infiltrate our brains, neuron by neuron, synapse by synapse. Of course, that's achieved more readily if one of the principals is perceived as being HOT (I will admit that I quite enjoyed a relatively recent and oft-viewed Ford Edge commerical -- and it wasn't because the CAR was hot!).
