I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Cry

Obama has taken some heat for his patriotism speech in Independence, Missouri -- but not from local supporters, including a mother and daughter who were so excited about meeting the senator, they cried (watch from 1:30 till the end):

Not long after, a woman literally gave Obama the shirt off his back:

Obama had decided to take a stroll down one of this tiny Missouri town's quiet streets Monday after a speech on the topic of patriotism. That sort of public appearance isn't something the Democratic presidential candidate does often, and he encountered people welcoming him onto the porches of their bungalows and clamoring politely but energetically in small crowds to see him . . . Obama would chat briefly, then resume his walk toward the tour.

Until he met Tootie Williams, that is.

The St. Louis native was wearing an oversized white T-shirt. It featured a picture of him and said: "Obama's in the House."

Obama said he loved it. So Williams said she'd give it to him and started to peel it off.

This caused much laughter, but also obvious consternation on Obama's part, even after she assured him she had on another shirt underneath -- which she did. As she struggled to remove the T-shirt with a mob of reporters and cameras looking on, he warned "Hold the rest of it down!"

Obama has taken some heat for his patriotism speech in Independence, Missouri -- but not from local supporters, including a mother and daughter who were so excited about meeting the senator, they crie...

He's 43rd most liberal senator out of 100. The Audacity of Centrism, Change We Can Make Believe In.

Americans are so ignorant of the nature of leadership that the rank and file join self-proclaimed management experts to talk of the charisma or lack of charisma of specific candidates. First of all, there is no such human characteristic as charisma. Therefore, the quality of leadership for improving or stagnating an organization has absolutely nothing to do with this alleged attribute.
A consummate charlatan could be alleged to possessing charisma. A prudent and decisive decision maker could be attributed to possessing charisma.
So what is charisma? When does it assert itself? Why?
Charisma is alleged when enough followers unquestionably support an administrator. This phenomen arises when large minorities of an organization's membership have been denied oppportunity that their ancestors freely thrived on. When a leader taps into these members' belief system that he can somehow loosen the grip of subjugation and renew growth and development, the members respond with a dedication that is the stuff of mass movements and revolutions. The followers see charisma in the leader. The perception is simply a reflection of their anxious hopes, fears and desperate susceptibility to believe and follow unquestionably.
Obama's promise that this election can change the world is not simply bombast or theatrics. There is a gathering storm that a great leader, with a bit of luck, can channel towards the democratic renaissance envisioned by our Nation's founders.

If you like like the economy then vote for McSame. I cry out for this country to see it hurting. My only hopes are if Obama can turn this country around and bring our troops home so the our country can get back to rebuilding our country for a change instead of another country.

Last night I dreamed I was running after him to sign a copy of"The Audacity of Hope". I guess that makes me a fanatic too. Or maybe someone who just wants to sell it for a profit in 10 years. :>) But really, don't be so hard on them for crying. I don't think the tears are so much for him personally as it is the hope he represents for the possiblity of a better tomorrow in this country.

My God. You're for real, aren't you? I've heard about people like you but never knew they actually existed.
My mother & father said... but I.."No Ma! You're lying! You're scaring me!"

Yes,
We are for real... we have seen our nation brought to the brink of destruction from within.... we have this chance to bring us back to our founding father's moral compass... the words and ideals expressed in our Declaration and our Constitution....

When I read "Dreams From my Father", I found myself crying a lot.. because Obama's journey into the discovery of himself echoed mine as a half Asian half Caucasian woman who was raised as a Catholic inside the white buckle of the Bible Belt of Springfield, MO... I found my place through service to my nation... through healthcare and then through a career in the US Navy.....

Yes, we are for real..... and we can't wait to cry on November 4th when Barack Obama ascends to the Presidency of the United States of America....

You mistake hysteria for a positive condition. The groupthink should be bothering democrats. Anyone know what Obama's policies will be? Nope. But you can look at his recent voting and frankly, he will be attractive to republicans if he keeps it up. And, that will be a hoot!

Maybe people are emotional because they finally feel like they have a chance after the last eight years.

Of course, Obama will not be perfect. I know that he has his hands in the corporate till. Otherwise he wouldn't be where he is.

It will be alot better than it has been, though.

We just have to make sure that we don't get four more.......Vote in November. Donate and volunteer now. McBush still has a chance and that's scary.

Obama detractors are pretty funny, too. So now he's attractive to Republicans because of FISA and Faith-based Initiatives? But wasn't he the "most liberal Senator" a couple of weeks ago? Which is it? Actually, it all makes sense now. The most liberal Senator appeals to Republicans. So you mean that whole post-partisan thing wasn't a lie? That he actually meant what he said? I guess that IS surprising in a time when politicians never mean what they say.

I'm sorry as opposed to the group think the republicans have been under for the last 8 years. At least the obama fans just want a shirt signed as opposed to the repubs who have subsisted on hate and fear and using gestapo tactics.

I disagree with him on telecom imunity and haved let him know by joining a group on his site dedicated to getting him to fight immunity. We will see what he does.

First of all, Obama is not empty, by any stretch of the imagination.

Secondly, empty is better than full of corporate greed, lies and war. Empty is better than another oil man for four more horrible years.

about five years. let's not pretend that celebrity pols don't get adoring mobs every so often. obama still has to go a ways to match george bush standing on the 9/11 rubble with the firemen. this is infrequent but nothing new. especially- let's not kid ourselves about national feelings for bush for a long while after 9/11- including the first few months of the iraq war.

now us progressives and our leaders can see our insignificance actually demonstrated spontaneously in huge panoramic dimensions. it is no longer neccessary to parse statements or read analysis. we are now at the point where the obama tidal wave washes all traces of progressive intellectual influence out to sea. wasn't it fun to believe the liberal blogs mattered?

The liberal blogs never mattered as much as you might have wanted or in ways you imagined. I think they're great because they make citizens FEEL like they have a say (when in reality they are just hurling messages from their chest onto a blank wall - how do I know you'll even get this message or whether or not it matters?). Candidates are candidates. They propose and you react. Not to mention that he has said, from Audacity of Hope onwards, that this country is purple, that he's post-partisan, that he's non-ideological. What did you expect? If you wanted a textbook liberal party hack why didn't you vote for Clinton? She was begging for your vote - literally begging!

i never supported obama or clinton. i'm just an observer. i don't project my wishes on these people only to wind up trying to scrape their bumperstickers off my car. i don't "want" anything. who wins makes no difference to me. i have tried to explain elsewhere that mccain is a dummy hand, and that obama is the right's real candidate; but that's mainly to see the reactions. i will actually vote though. i will vote for the green party. that's the party to the left of bush. i don't care if mccain wins. i just vote for who i want and skip the games. i agree with the greens so i vote for them. i don't get scared off voting for my principles. i am far to the left of all candidates except dennis k. they are much much closer to each other than any of them are to me.

I understand where you are comging from, Obama may not have a long resume like others thats in office now or he is running against....But Answer me this..

Bush and his administration are fulll experience from top to bottom, so how did they get this world into a hurrican of destruction? Bush have destroyed the economy, killed 4000 plus in Iraq and more....so please explain...........

also consider, that if you remove the personalities and the images you have seen. Put the candidates proposals on paper and read them through without any identifying markers.

Obama's proposals simply make sense in dealing with almost all the issues our country (and for the most part the world) is facing now.

The same can not be said about McSame.

The media and pundits will try and convince you that America isn't ready for change. But just like HRC McCain will lose to Obama.

This country is crying out for him and there is no stopping this movement.

Stories and comments like these is why I have a disdain for Obama supporters. It really doesn't take much for the American people to get behind someone. Obama supporters are just as bad as the Bush supporters of 2000 and 2004. As long as he "makes you feel good" then he deserves to be in the White House.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:13 AM on 07/02/2008

Are you saying that people don't need to feel good. Do you have any idea what millions of Americans face everyday. If for a few minutes you can make a person forget about how screwed up things really are, i say go for it. Thank you Sen. Mack1124 stop ,drinking so much koolaid, you'll feel better.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:33 AM on 07/02/2008

there's one thing fundamentally wrong with your argument - Bush didn't make anybody feel good. There was no reason for change when he became POTUS, the country was fine yet he ravaged it with the witch hunt for Sadaam Hussein. You can't paint all Obama supporters with the same broad brush - it's no secret that "W" lacks any discernable intelligence and history will judge him as one of, if not the worst POTUS. Obama is everything that "W" isn't as a man and as a leader. We had the guy that pundits said was the "guy you felt like going out and having a beer with" now the country and the world want the guy with integrity, intelligence and a clear path for the country not just a plan to make his daddy's old rich friends, richer.

In the 2000 the election was stolen and we haven't recovered, in 2004 the election was about which candidate could portray themselves as the "Lesser of Two Evils" and we still haven't recovered. To say that "W" made us feel good is utterly absurd, when do fear and cynicism feel good? You know what makes me feel good about W, it's the understanding gloom & ignorance of this regime will come to an end. Attempting to compare Obama to W is like trying to compare the similarities between lollipops and giraffes.

Any voter either form the Left or Right, who believes some politiican is going to change their life for the better is sadly mistaken. If this women wants to improve her life and that of her child, it would have to be via the decisions she makes and the effort she is willing to give. That's brutaly tough language for some on this board, however its real world.
