Mccain

In what Marc Ambinder says is the first radio contrast ad of the general election, a McCain friend says the senator has "a great history of supporting us," while "the other candidate just discovered the importance of the Hispanic vote."

The ad will air in New Mexico and Nevada.

(WATCH)

Of course, Gallup polls show Hispanic voters prefer Obama by a wide margin.

I really wish ALL the politico's would stop assuming that whichever way the Mexican vote goes, so goes every other Latino group in America. In fact, I wish they would "discover" via educating themselves about exactly what those groups are neither of them seem to be aware of apart from that one oft mention one. Just as many registered or eligible to be registered voters identify themselves as Hispanic be they of European, Aztec or African ancestry. We're Cubano's, Dominicans, Columbians, Honduran's, Puerto Ricans not just Mexican. Damn, doesn't anyone ever watch baseball or futbol?!

Obama 08'

Thanks for this one. Yeah, there are A LOT of Spanish speaking countries in our hemisphere---each with their own identities, idioms, customs and histories. C'mon, North America----we wouldn't want everyone down south to assume we were all Canadians!

How many people of untold wealth have made the great state of Arizona their home. It seems the overwhelming majority of minorities born and living in that state are not living the wealth but serving the wealthy. I still waiting to see coverage of Cindy McCain rubbing elbows with the regular folks. It seems logical to me that their radio ad would be more effective, and more believable, had there been a representation of the Hispanic community with which they are familar and accustomed to interacting. Jeb Bush, the former FL gov is married to a woman of Spanish/Latin descent (I apologize if I err on the proper description, no offense). That some who are obviously of the same heritage are unaware speaks volumes to the exploitation of such for purpose of this election, in my opinion. However, it is not a secret and has not been approached by such by the Bush family. To that end, it behooves us all to do our due diligence, the MSS is spinning and spinning. The McBush campaign continues to try to dictate how Sen. Obama should operate his campaign. They know all they have to do is continue doing what they do best, scare the crap out of everyone, or worse yet, continue to look down their noses at all of us grassroots folks and assume we don't know fact from fiction. I will continue to believe this man is too old to be POTUS!

Maybe he's hoping that Hispanics are just as easily led as those hardworking white Americans who continue to vote against their best economic interests.

McCain's ad is stunning in that it comes from the candidate who has backed away from the very same immigration bill he himself wrote.

That talking point is meaningless. McCain, Obama, Bush, the Mexican government, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Nationalrats des Volkes, and all the rest all support the same basic thing, amnesty. They might have slightly different tactics, but their goals are all the same.

I posted an English-language transcript of the ad here:

I take it every time you wrote Anglos he said Hispanics. Still a bad ad.

I thought Anglos were Anglo-Saxons. Did he mean Latinos? Sounds like business as usual in the McCain propaganda http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/03/mccain-hits-obama-in-span_n_110754.html#ine#ine.

You would be hard pressed to read my profile and find any defense of JM, but on this one he is right. Hi-llary had that demographic covered like a hand knitted quilt on a cold night. My community is Hispan-ic and there was not one O sign to be found.

McCain debe pensar que somos estúpidos.

Pardon if my Spanish is sloppy, 3 years of high school 18 years ago.

This guy doesn't sound Hipsanic at all. He sounds like a gringo reading a script in Spanish (and doing a bad job at it too!). There is no Spanish speaking American that will take this commercial seriously. As for the charge that Obama just discovered Hispanics, I say John McCain did have Hispanics mowing his lawn and doing his laundry long before Obama was born, so it is a relatively valid point (relative in that McCain is so much older than Obama so that Obama that it is true he has known about Hispanics longer).

You are right. I coulndn't have put it more eloquent. This is a time that Latinos have to vote in a united block for Obama. McCain has shown us he is a hipocrit, for him to get the nomination "threw us under the bus". So to my latinos out there. lets unite in a unified block for Obama. Lets show them that the days of looking down at us are over. That we are latinos but first of all Americans.

McCain is just PO'd because he pretty much considered the Hispanic vote his as a foregone conclusion, much the same way Hillary considered the black vote hers in 2007 before the primary season began.

Barack, it would seem, had news for Hillary, and now he's got news for John.

Si Se Puede! I learned that phrase weeks before the California primary at the downtown Santa Ana Obama campaign office. Obama campaign staffers had an entire group of spanish speaking phone bankers trying to whittle away the Hillary vote. How many spanish speaking republicans do you know?
Just another story to try and keep this a horse race.

I know one Spanish speaking Republican, but you can always find such exceptions.

I am hoping that we can get 75-80% of the Hispanic vote for Obama. To begin with Obama needs real native speakers making commercials (not a gringo sounding guy that says he's one of us) and the commercials need to ber tailored to the different Hispanic communities and diverse groups.
