The Swiftboaters Are Back: GOP Funds Group With Finance Law Loophole

The "Swift Boaters" from 2004 are back at it.

A group of top Republican contributors who financially fueled the famous "Swift Boat" campaign ads that helped sink Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign back in 2004 are starting to regroup.

A story in today's Wall Street Journal reports on new Republican efforts to circumvent the landmark campaign finance laws named after their top candidate -- the McCain-Feingold Act of 2002.

Is this loophole one McCain wrote himself into this bill he is now using with the GOP? I truly thought the McCain Feingold bill was a step to better not loophles one can drive through. The swiftboaters found out last election how they can influence the minions who do not pay attention nor read the truth about the candidates. The will get into the lying and mis statements and change the way people hear and read what they bother to and MSM treat mac like telon will give them a pass again. Just like with Kerry when MSM knew the truth they let the swifties do their games.

This is why Obama turning down PAC money was much more significant than McCain's lipservice to public financing.

The broadcast media better play this one up. People need to understand that donors to 527s often give $150,000-250,000 and are told, as in this story, that it will "go to help elect McCain".

Until you get RID of 527s, there IS no public financing. The whole "taxpayer funded campaign" is a farce, at present.
