HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

In honor of the great American holiday, Huffington Post has pulled together a slideshow of some of entertainment's finest showing off their patriotism in stars and stripes throughout the years. From vintage shots from a classic television show to modern day magazine covers, the American flag motif has graced bodies in cloth, sequins and even a little body paint.

Below is a slideshow of ten great American flag bikini moments (one on a Brazilian), with a few bonus shots of not-quite-bikinis thrown in as well.

Any iconic shots we forgot? Let us know and leave a link in the comments section.

When I was a lad (Viet Nam era) you could get your ass kicked for wearing the flag.
Now there is no shame in this country.

I totally agree with you. I don't think we should have flag napkins or bikinis. I mean, wiping your mouth with the flag?!? Bad idea, but I don't people think about it anymore. They're not trying to be disrespectful, they just have forgotton the significance of our flag.

Sorry I haven't read through these posts, maybe someone else found this iconic photo from the Dark Ages. Saucy, a bit quaint, once upon a time women were allowed to actually have curves.

How so unpatriotic...! Did you notice these gals are not wearing any flag pins, and how they didn't place their hands on their big chests? Quite appalling. There's no way I am voting for them.

An absolute disgrace.

But not quite as disgraceful as cheap flag pins on the lapels of unindicted war criminals.

Where are the men? I want almost naked men.

Ironic iconic: The REAL Bikini flag, that is the flag of Bikini Atoll, memorializing US desecration -- at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Bikini_Atoll:

"The 23 white stars in the canton of the flag represent the 23 islands of Bikini Atoll. The three black stars in the upper right represent the three islands that were disfigured in March 1954 during 15-megaton Bravo test by the United States. The two black stars in the lower right corner represent where the Bikinians live now, Kili Island, 425 miles to the south of Bikini Atoll, and Ejit Island of Majuro Atoll. These two stars are symbolically far away from Bikini's stars on the flag as the islands are in real life (both in distance and quality of life). The Marshallese language words on the bottom of the flag, "MEN OTEMJEJ REJ ILO BEIN ANIJ," reportedly represent the words spoken in 1946 by the Bikinian leader, Juda, to U.S. Commodore Ben Wyatt when the American went to Bikini to ask the islanders to give up their islands for the 'good of all mankind' for nuclear weapons testing. It translates as "Everything is in the hands of God."

(You think that's the flag these ladies are wearing? Sublime, subliminal!)

okay okay

I gripe sometimes about media and Huffpo and their celebrity obsession and the fact that we sometimes can't find hard news anywhere. I'm worried about what's happening to our media and it's vital role in our Democracy.

This is just another example.

But it is fun. thanks.

Long before that tramp Wonder Woman desecrated our national symbol Uncle Sam was running around with the stars and stripes "In his crotch". I suspect he was also "going commando". Every July 4th we patriots are subjected to more abuse of our flag and our sensibilities. When I see that top-hatted, be-stilted and bearded man festooned with our sacred symbols I find it hard not to throw-up. Why does he have to flaunt this in front of the rest of us? Maybe I should just turn away and not think about it.

I'm trying to visualize a woman-in-burka picture as exuberant as Jessica Simpson's. Makes me glad all over again to be an American woman... and wish that I looked like that! And to see it like that, boy does our flag make sense! Star-spangled and bright-striped and bursting with pride and joy and life. Way to pursue happiness! I'm in the flag and the flag's in me! Perfect!

By the way, I always think Stephen Colbert exemplifies the American flag -- so 100% full of himself, so 0% doubt, applause please!, I am America and so can you -- and another commenter here left a link to the picture of bare Stephen wrapped in the flag. Now that's iconic too! http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1306/716146990_f881531ff8_m.jpg

I cannot think of a higher or better use for these flags.
