French officials say former hostage Ingrid Betancourt will be awarded the Legion of Honor on Bastille Day.

Betancourt -- who was released from six years of captivity in a Colombian jungle last week -- will receive the prestigious award on July 14. Bastille Day is France's biggest national holiday.

She's also scheduled to address the National Assembly, the lower house of France's parliament, on Wednesday.

President Nicolas Sarkozy's office said Monday that Betancourt will be decorated along with other Legion of Honor recipients. Betancourt is a dual French-Colombian citizen.

Too bad they didn't pop a few of the FARC thugs as the helicopter took off.

This has to have Pelosi upset. It's reported that she was working with FARC to undermine the pro-American Uribe gov't.

Gee, isn't it a coincidence that she blocked the vote on the free trade agreement with Colombia?

It's been reported that this was a negotiated (aka huge ransoms were paid, by French and Swiss go-between's) release...and that the Colombian government got wind of it, or more likely double-crossed the negotiators and seized the helicopter in which the already released captives were flying to freedom. The footage was staged, probably without the knowledge of the captives, so as to appear to be some sort of 'Jessica Lynch-style' rescue. Why is that angle being talked about here?

Our tax dollars in the US, drug money by Colombia, and health care money by Paris, were used to pay the ransom. Only a stupid person would believe that this was a trick. No. Can you give away your most valued item without drama??

Pelosi probably started this rumor to cover her tracks.

It's been a while since someone deserved it. Sarkozy would give it to Bush if he didn't fear the backlash.
