There's new advice for older men who want to preserve their sexual function: have sex, and have it often, researchers say.

In a study that followed nearly 1,000 older Finnish men for five years, researchers found that those who were regularly having sex at the start of the study were at lower risk of developing erectile dysfunction (ED) by the study's end.

In fact, the more often the men had sex, the lower their ED risk.

The implication, say the researchers, is that men should be encouraged to stay sexually active into their golden years.

Dr. Juha Koskimaki and colleagues at the University of Tampere in Finland report the findings in the American Journal of Medicine. The study included 989 men who were between the ages of 55 and 75 at the outset.

Overall, those who said they had sex less than once per week were twice as likely to develop ED over the next five years as men who had sex at least once a week. Furthermore, compared with men who had sex three or more times per week, their ED risk was increased nearly four-fold.

Most of the older men that I know, have stated they enjoy sex. They just don't do it as often. And, would like to have more of it but with different women. These men have been married to the same women for 30 plus years at the low end and 40 years at the high end. All have been faithful but they tell me that they seek a new thrill. And, suprisingly, it doesn't have to be a nubile, perky young woman, just another woman (women?).

Does marriage to the same partner stifle sexual desire and activity?

I hate these ads...why can't we make sure they are on say after midnight?
I'm doing something with my neice & nephew and here comes one of these ads.
Or I'm trying to eat my dinner (fill in the blank)

I'm so darn disgusted that maybe I should just turn off the tv here...

Maybe we should give awards for the worst commercials these ones would win hands down:)

I don't like the ads either, because they are really stupid. But, how would they ruin your dinner? I was unable to "fill in the Blank."

Does sex make you uncomfortable?

The age old question, the chicken or the egg. Does ED come because you don't use it or do you not use it because you have ED?

I theorize healthy people have more sex because they don't have issues like ED to contend with.

WHAT BS. YOU DON'T DEVELOP ED UNLESS YOU ARE DIABETIC, OR AS A SIDE EFFECT FROM SOME ANTI HYPERTENSIVES.....OR SOME EMOTIONAL PROBLEM WHICH CAN BE CURED.
THIS STUDY FROM THE FINNS IS AS BAD AS BLAMING COFFEE FOR DIFFERENT DISEASES.

Thank you, Doctor Rice. ;-D

Seriously ... unless you can tell us why you are an expert and can make such a limiting and exclusionary statement as to the causes of ED, you'll forgive us if we view your claim with just a TAD of skepticism.
