New York Times:

Get ready for a black, tongue-in-cheek version of "Dateline."

"Chocolate News," a new sketch comedy series on Comedy Central, will made its debut in October, just in time for the presidential election. The show, starring David Alan Grier, will pretend to offer news from an African-American perspective.

Speaking to reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour on Wednesday, Mr. Grier said that if Barack Obama wins the presidency, it would be a windfall for his show. "That would be like a monumentous occasion culturally and comedically," he said.

Robert Morton, an executive producer, said the show is "figuring out how to do some sort of live topical presentation the night after the election."

"We just have to," Mr. Morton said. "It's too good to miss."

David Alan Greer...really? He hasn't been funny since In Living Color.

DAG on Loveline w/Adam and Dr. Drew, a couple years ago, was some of the best radio ever. You could start with this one:

Davis Alan Grier veers from the hilarious to the insipid, depending on which day you see him. I hope he is on point. I will check out Chocolate News.

And then Richard Gere can host a fake news show from the Tibetan point of view and . . .
Johnny Depp can host a fake news show from the Pirate point of view and . . .
John Stewart can host a fake news show from the "used to be funny comedian but has way lost his edge point of view " . . . . Oh wait a minute he already does that.

Sounds racist.

I'm sure David will have political analysts such as Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy...would be better if he could have guests like Colbert & Stewart....

This should be great and fun to watch.

Should be funny! Too bad Chapelle can't host it.
10:43 AM on 07/11/2008
I was going to say the same of Chapelle
02:08 PM on 07/11/2008
Chapelle has burned way too many bridges to be handed a new show.

Just before the election. I have a bad feeling about this.
02:07 PM on 07/11/2008
I agree, it could cost Obama the election!

I also think David is hilarious...the sketch he did on In Living Color with Daman Wayans was hysterical (wasn't it Men On Films???). Very funny guy...I will be watching.

Pleazze. Coming out in October just before the election? Is this going to showcase black people in a positive light? I doubt it.
02:46 PM on 07/11/2008
I was thinking the same thing. The timing is a bit suspicious.

I know this will sound racist but, why aren't there any original black shows? This is nothing but the Daily Show, plus black. It seems like all black programming is simply a black version of some other show that did it first.

And what pray tell, would an "original black show" look like? How can anything blacks do in America be original when we were raised in the image of whites and stripped and beaten out of our heritage very early on? We are not like Latinos and Asians--my ancestors were brainwashed and beaten to forget their culture and adopt yours--which is why your comment makes no sense. Dave Chapelle wasn't "Original" yet his show was enormously popular. Rap is about the only thing I can think of that blacks in America originated.

The entire catalog of Rock and Roll comes to us courtesy of the influence of African Americans, as does Jazz. As does open heart surgery. A little history seems to be in order.

David is the man! I'm happy this brother is getting his own show. Can't wait to see it. Now I can get my Stewart, Colbert and Grier fix.

Aren't all the current news shows fake?
