As news spread across the world of Iran's provocative missile tests, so did an image of four missiles heading skyward in unison. Unfortunately, it appeared to contain one too many missiles, a fact that had not emerged before the photo appeared on the front pages of The Los Angeles Times, The Financial Times, The Chicago Tribune and several other newspapers as well as on BBC News, MSNBC, Yahoo! News, NYTimes.com and many other major news Web sites.

Agence France-Presse said that it obtained the image from the Web site of Sepah News, the media arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, on Wednesday. But there was no sign of it there later in the day. Today, The Associated Press distributed what appeared to be a nearly identical photo from the same source, but without the fourth missile.

HOW COULD THE MEDIA LIE LIKE THAT?

Read the story folks! It appears the AP got the genuine photo from the original source. And it would appear that Western media outlets doctored the photo.
Since this yellow journalism has been going onfor awhile, I would admonish my fellow readers to be wary of ANYTHING you read about Iran anywhere in the media, including on this website.

This assumption by the author is a leap of faith without facts. In fact in the digital world to say this is altered is unsupportable by the picture alone. There are ways to tell if the image has been shopped or altered if you can review it.

I have expertise in this area.

To draw cricles around a picture and make assumptions is fine, to state this opinion as a fact is in my opinion is just horrible yellow journalism. To the unknowing and gullible this speculative conclusion is right in line with the recent sightings of Elvis Presley and big foot.

If you don't think this picture was doctored, you need serious therapy time.

Oh well, since they're faking their military photos, they must not really have enough military might to pose much of a serious threat then.

Can the Bush Junta and I s r a e l stop their threats now?

This is ridiculous. The launch would have appeared much better with six, seven , or eight missles. Why shop just one missle?

The Iranians have live feed on it. Look for yourself, this is just a photo among many.

I saw that the Fox News website had this as their lead story today. Interesting that they made a big deal about these digitally altered photos. Oh, the irony.

Links to the gateway pundit blog are blocked by the "bad words" filter. Go figure.

Anyway, "Gateway Pundit" is all over this story and has photos from Mar 2007 and Nov 2006. The missile pics are from the same set of photos.

The photo of Iranian missiles is not only photoshopped; it is two years old.

Kamangir has the story and the pictures:

Yes they do, take a look, they are another self fullfilling conclusion. These missles may have, or probably were fired from the same type of launchers. They fire in sequence.

This proves what???? Same people looking for the same conclusion.

Why is this a story in the first place anyway? The U.S. tests missiles on its territory, and it's not front-page news. Iran does the same on its territory, and ... Yawn. The "photoshop" angle is just a distraction from the fact that this is NON-NEWS.

Reminds me of the time I almost innocently caused an international incident. I worked for a media contractor that did work for all of the big defense contractors like Westinghouse and Lockheed in the SF bay area. We were doing a rush slide presentation for a mobile missile system for the King of Egypt that had a pretty serious price tag. I had been messing around with the head honcho from Lockheed in charge of the presentation and had had the cover slide with a camel race going on in the background, you know, ten camels with their camel jockeys whipping them up. This guy had no sense of humor whatsoever so I stopped messing around with him.

One of my illustrators couldn't find the normal rub on stars we used for maps so he asked if he could just use two overlapped triangles for the capital, I said sure. I didn't even thing about the religious aspect of using a star of david for the capital of Egypt. They said it would have shot down their sale and been considered about as big an insult as could be dished out to the King. They take this religious thing waay too seriously.

I think the US altered it to increase idea of Iran as a threat.
The SeattlePI has it in a Pictures of the week slideshow, unaltered.

THey said its from the Iranian media..

I am BETTING WE the good ol' US of A edited it, the ol government, to further bolster their lies that Iran is a threat, rather than show the laughable real photo where one missile failed to launch at all...

Karrezza. Can I take that bet? I publically challenge you to a $1000 bet. We can use a paypal account and pick someone to be arbiter. I would prove beyond any doubt that this picture was altered by Iranian sources, not U.S. sources. Are you on?
Put up or shut up.
