New McCain Ad: Hispanic Immigrants Are "God's Children" (VIDEO)

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

In a new ad, John McCain reaches out to Hispanic members of the Armed Forces. The ad uses footage from a Republican primary debate where McCain defended immigrants against Tom Tancredo:

When you go to Iraq or Afghanistan today, you're going to see a whole lot of people who are of Hispanic background. You're even going to meet some of the few thousand that are still green card holders who are not even citizens of this country, who love this country so much that they're willing to risk their lives in its service in order to accelerate their path to citizenship and enjoy the bountiful, blessed nation.

So let's from time to time remember that these are God's children. They must come into country legally, but they have enriched our culture and our nation as every generation of immigrants before them.

[WATCH]

The ad will air in Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico.

"God's children", heh?

Well of course they are, we are all "God's children". This strikes me a condescending. Wow, illegal immigrants are human beings, imagine that. (sarcasm)

To think you have to tell republicans this in a paid ad is very telling about the kind of people that consistently support Republicans, ya know like "hard working white americans".

Latinos served proudly in all wars. Latinos love and have fought and died for America. According to a statistical survey, by the Pew Hispanic Center, Latinos represent about 10 percent of the military population.

See survey:http://pewhispanic.org/files/reports/17.pdf

It's condescending to be called "Children of God." As if we were just discovered by the conquistadors of the Republican Party. I guess it's code for "they're ok, they serve and die for our causes in foreign wars, we shouldn't have to beat down on them, we need them for the up coming general election."

The issue is not that that Latinos serve and die in wars, it's that the GOP has a reactionary wing, a John Birch side, that rears its "ugly fork tongue."

What fascination does certain elements in the GOP have with Latinos? Think of the uncouth, smarmy, and indolent character Tom Tancredo? McCain was "defending" us for political purposes from this GOP gumshoe!!

He must remind and convince GOP audience members to "please be kind to these "Children of God." because Arizonian McCain gets a fat paycheck from tax paying Latinos both legal and illegal, as does Tancredo. Yes, folks illegals pay taxes.

The subtle subtext is, "their blood is red just like ours, they shoot guns at terrorists, and they hop borders to love this country." Let's bash them after the election, not now.

One more reason to drop kick the GOP.

When I was in high school(admittedly a while ago)four years of foreign study was required.

I had two years of Latin, and two of Spanish. French and German were also offered.

Little did I dream that even discussing such a concept would one day be deemed unpatriotic.

Strange, I don't recall anyone from my school ever being tried for treason.

These people are so beyond the pale. They lack anything resembling grace or subtlety in their campaigning. It is like a preschooler's version of Machiavellianism.

"So let's from time to time remember that these are God's children"
---

From "time to time" - what kind of nonsense is that? Like let's remember it when I'm trying to get them to vote for me and then forget it again when I'm trying to please my conservative base?

Puh-leaze.

As opposed to Obama saying
:
"I don't understand when people are going around worrying about 'We need to have English only.' Maybe they ought to pass a law we want just uh we want English only. Now I agree that immigrants should learn English. I agree with that. But, but understand this, instead of worrying about whether uh immigrants can learn English, they'll learn English. You need to make sure your child can speak Spanish."

Clearly, to Obama, as far as language skills are concerned, immigrant means Hispanics only. We SHOULD teach our children Spanish! Not Russian. Not Chinese. Not even German or French or Italian, let alone the hundreds of other foreign languages.

unhappy - you are lying. Obama never said what you said he did.

Obama said, "immigrants WILL learn English ... You should be thinking about how can your child become bilingual. We should have every child speaking more than one language."

Obama is right.

We should be teaching our children more than one language as early as elementary school ... like they do in ALL countries around the world.

We live in a global world. We do business with every country in the world. We are idiots if we only offer Spanish & English in high schools. We SHOULD teach Russian, Chinese, German, French, Italian, and even Mideastern Languages ... DUH!!!!!!!!!

There is no way to separate John McCain from the xenophobia of his party. Embelematic of the hate that the Republicans embody is Liddy's denigration of the Spanish language as speaking "illegal alien". I wish all Americans could see the offensiveness of a statement like that, but instead I imagine a number of rednecked wingnuts whooping at the rejoinder. Yeah, John McCain, you think your attempt to sell a lie to me is going to work? I am one Hispanic woman who not only WILL NOT vote for you, but I also will be working hard to defeat you and the rest of your Republican haters!

One wonders if you believe Mexico is full of hate-filled people for their policy of keeping those "darker-skinned" people from the south from crossing their border with their army. And, once someone has managed to risk their life to come into Mexico, they are caught and put in prison-like camps before being sent back.

Don't you hate the truth? It always comes back to bite you in the ass.
04:35 PM on 07/11/2008
yeah, the same God's Children he has railed against for years. He wants to build a fence and keep out all brown people, not just Hispanics. I think the GOP has hit an all time low, really they have.

I find it particularly sad that he finds the border crosser s "God's children" but has no problem with torturing prisoners in seclusion and denying these children of God even the right of habeaus corpus!
