Chris Matthews Confuses Barack Obama And Osama Bin Laden Once Again

Talking about the flap over The New Yorker's controversial cover featuring Barack and Michelle Obama, Chris Matthews slipped up -- once again -- and said "Osama Bin Laden" when he meant to say "Barack Obama." Matthews quickly caught and corrected himself.

Come on, Chris, give it up. There is no news about Osama bin Laden. There hasn't been any news about him for years. So why should his name be on the tip of your tongue? My guess is that it isn't.

Its interesting that when some make the mistake its a freudian slip but when others do it its an honest mistake a tongue twister. I've never gotten the names mixed up but then again I just think about what each represents and I cant see a situation where I would ever confuse them even their names.

This is why the New Yorker cover is a dangerous thing. The idea that people could even confuse the names of these two people boggles my mind. They are just somethings you make sure dont happen more than once. To have a picture of Bin Laden on the wall of the white house while the Obama's are in the white house just reinforces to me how mediocre we really are. I mean Obama has been the one talking constantly about capturing Osama that we took our eyes off him in Afghanistan and somehow he is seen as representing Osama's interest? Its the NAME and when folks like Chris Matthews get it wrong it just reinforces to me that our media contributes SIGNIFICANTLY to our mediocrity as a nation.

I made this mistake myself once. Ted Kennedy made this mistake also. We really need to get over it as it is a an easy one to make with the similar sounding names.

I think it was an honest mistake. Besides, anyone with eyes and ears and a functioning brain can see that Matthews is a huge supporter of Obama. He, and Keith Olbermann are his biggest and blatant media supporters. As long as Obama wins in November, it's all good.

Yes, I agree it was just a mistake, I was watching Chis Matthews show when it happen and he realized what he said immediately and frustrated himself because he said the wrong name, so I judge that mistake to his head and not his heart.

Mathews is in the tank for Obama and has been for months. He slipped up and corrected himself, big deal. Mathews has said himself (on the air) that Obama "thrills" him and send shivers "down his leg". At least he isn't biased right?

Yes, Matthews has been in the tank for Obama for months -- the months he was fighting Hillary Clinton for the dem nomination. I even recall Sean Hannity, of all people, singing Obama's praises during that time. All that is changed now. It's a new game now, Obama is the dem nominee, and watch closely, your eyes may start playing tricks on you.

Take The New Yorker, for example. One picture is worth a thousand Seymour Hersh articles, wouldn't you say?

It is difficult for me to conclude that Matthews is "in the tank for Obama" but even so, I think you are correct about a slip. Matthews has definitely been more even handed of late. I think it is because he may run as a Democrat and if so, he needs to act a bit sweeter to have any credibility with the Dems.
