Civil Campaign? McCain Camp Says Obama Wants To Lose In Iraq

Talking Points Memo   |   July 14, 2008 01:16 PM

The McCain campaign, which has said it doesn't question Obama's patriotism, is now doing something awfully similar: Claiming that Barack Obama and the Democrats are dedicated to losing the war for their own political benefit.

The new accusation was unveiled on a McCain campaign conference call moments ago, with top McCain surrogates making this charge in tandem.

Sen. Lindsey Graham said that a "turning point" was when Harry Reid declared the war "lost" over a year ago, and brought up an old quote from Chuck Schumer predicting that discontent with the war would lead to further Democratic gains. "The Democratic Party built a political strategy around us losing the war in Iraq," Graham said.

People need to read "The Two Colonels Book" that describes asymmetric warfare from a Chinese perspective. The more force we bring to bear to inflict our will on these people, the more we will provide the exact conditions required for our defeat. You can download a copy here:

Imagine the nerve of Democrats in making gains because the majority population opposes Republican policies.

Next thing you know, people will be voting on their opinion of the candidates policies.

Republicans have damn well better put a stop to this.

12 years.

The GOP can't manage the economy, handle the dollar, or win a war against a third world desert nation.

Now McSame can't run a campaign for POTUS.

Beats me why corporate media is in the tank for this guy.

Obama's change on Iraq is pretty confusing.

Funny - Obama's supposed "change" on Iraq is just like his supposed sexism. You hear the 'pub trolls (many of them attempting to pass themselves off as embittered Hillary supporters or disillusioned former Obama supporters, when in fact they have been and always will be 'pub trolls) talking about it, but never hear them come up with verifiable proof of their charges. They just keep yelling "flip-flop" and/or "sexist", as if repeating it over and over will make it true. What do you thing this is, a tribunal at Gitmo?

I could see that a PUMA would be easily confused. Go vote for the Manchurian candidate.

Republicans say he wants to lose. Even the republican media says that they are losing in Iraq so how is this a pitch worth making? Yeah let's spend all of the time prior to election day talking about the fiasco in Iraq and show lots of pictures and have lots of on the ground reports. Maybe the people of Iraq will kick us out by then or get on the tube and explain all the wonderful things we are doing over there. Are republicans really this stupid or do they think the voters are?

Senator McCain.

Please define what is winning in Iraq to you.

How much more will it cost in American lives and money and how much longer will it take?

thanks,

Winning......

Destroying the AlQueda
Capturing Bin Ladan
Helping Iraqis establish a secular peace

Does mcsame ever consider any of these goals?

You bet he doesn't. We loose this war every day that we are there.

Winning is nothing less than a 400% increase in Halliburton's stock price.

Yet, it's okay for McCain's homey to say that an attack on America would boost his chances for becoming president??? Can we say double standard.

Mind you also that these people aren't speaking on behalf of Obama's campaign. it's not like they are saying that "this will boost Obama's campaign". Nice try Rethugs....

Thats funny, how can Obama loose something that McCain and the right wing has already lost? It was not really winnable from the beginning simply because no one has decided what we have to do to win. First off we were told it was to find the WMD, so Saddam could not give them to terrorists, but he never had any so then, it was to get Saddam so we did, killed him too. I bet Ole McCain did a fist bump with GW over that one. Then it was to bring about a free democracy in Iraq they voted so we won again I forget now what it is we are to win maybe its the oil, of course it was always the oil but they covered it with false BS the whole time. Basically someday John and his busddioes will decide what it is we have to do to win but then that might be 100 years from now.

It's amazing to me the GOP actually has the balls to try and shove this crap down the throats of the American people. The fact is Osama Bin Laden and his group have already won their fight with the United States. How is this possible, you ask?
Al'Queda knew from the beginning they could not win this fight militarily and said so. The goal was always to bankrupt the US in a prolonged fight, much the same as the Afgani'sdid to the USSR in the 1980's. Can anyone say Bears Stearns? How about Fannie May or Freddie Mac? $4.00+/gallon?
BushCo's policies have more far reaching affects OBL could have only dreamt about. The Patriot Act, FISA, and other legislation have diminished rights Americans were guaranteed by the constitution, while failing to keep us safer. Islamic extremists are extremely patient people and the fact we haven't seen another 9/11 doesn't mean it won't happen again.
Then there's the debacle in Iraq. McSame saying our troops will come home with honor will only occur when we, the American People, recognize and bestow on these men and women the honor they so rightly deserve. Soldiers cannot be blamed for the failures of leadership, but we can be grateful for their courage and sacrifice.
Real leadership, interested first and foremost in the people of this country, all of it's people, has been MIA for 7+ years. It's about time to bring it home.

I know Mr. McCain was in combat and was a POW. The only such person in the history of America? Put it aside.

There are men who anger easily. There are men who are essentially mean spirited. There are men of strength, character, and integrity, who can lead, and even inspire. Mr. McCain has no credible claim to membership in the latter category.
