Cable News Host Makes Major Breakthough For Media

Today, MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski made something of a major breakthrough for a member of the press whose coterie have become so addicted to the idea that no fact exists outside of the frame of "he said/she said." CJR captures the moment thusly:

Mika Brzezinski caught herself offering he-said/she-said reporting, unnecessarily attributing a factually true statement to someone (in this case "critics" of President Bush's lifting of the offshore oil drilling ban) instead of stating it as fact-- and she corrected herself.

Watch this amazing feat for yourself:

On Monday the president ended a longstanding moratorium on the practice [of offshore oil drilling] saying the new drilling would ease pressure on fuel prices. Critics argue production of gas from the offshore oil drilling would be years away. As it would be.

Can we acknowledge that some facts need no other backing than their own self-evidence? Yes we can!
