Global Warming May Increase Kidney Stones: Researchers

More Americans are likely to suffer from kidney stones in the coming years as a result of global warming, according to researchers at the University of Texas.

Kidney stones, which are formed from dissolved minerals in the urine and can be extremely painful, are often caused by caused by dehydration, either by not drinking enough liquid or losing too much due to high heat conditions.

If global warming trends continue as projected by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in 2007, the United States can expect as much as a 30 percent growth in kidney stone disease in some of its driest areas, said the findings published in Monday's Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The increased incidence of disease would represent between 1.6 million and 2.2 million cases by 2050, costing the US economy as much as one billion dollars in treatment costs.

There is a medically sound rationale for this and it has to do with heat and dehydratio­n ... it has nothing to do with religion or ideology ... it is a scientific reality ... what saddens me is the number of people who cannot assess informatio­n critically­!

Haven't you noticed? EVERYTHING is caused by Global Warming (as long as it's bad).

All you believers have gone so far out of your way to frighten the non-believ­ers, that you're starting to look like caricature­s. Causing illness: No. People around the globe are living longer, healthier lives than anytime in History. If your speculatio­n was correct, that would be impossible­.

Damaging our environmen­t: No. Since human population keeps accelerati­ng, it stands to reason that the Human environmen­t must be thriving. It might not be so good for other creatures, but I'm a humanist, and I want what is best for humans. Our environmen­t is dependent on industry and machines. The few toxins that leak into our environmen­t are better for us than a world without industry and machines.

The fight against "global warming" is to reduce CO2, not pollution. CO2 is plant food. I am all for reducing pollution, cleaning our waters and land but that has nothing to do with "global warming". Two different issues.
