AFP:

Zimbabwe's inflation rate, already the world's highest, hit an astronomical 2.2 million percent Wednesday after Robert Mugabe's re-election in a one-man poll critics had said the nation could ill afford.

After months of silence on the inflation rate, central bank governor Gideon Gono let slip it was well into seven figures as he rejected suggestions by a leading economist that it was in reality many times higher.

Zimbabwe and the U.S. have two things in common, a senseless leader, one with no control and no skills the other with total control and no leadership to speak of . .

. . and now, a dismal economy.

Both should be on trial.

Sorry, that’s three things.

And we think we have problems. I can at least afford to eat, put gas in my car and have a paying job to go to every day. We do not realize what is happening throughout the rest of the world and until the blinders come off, most people will not care because it does not personally affect one's own life. I have no idea why people are opposed to a border; we already have an invisible one surrounding us. Unless it happens in the United States or to the United States, C'est la vie.

Some bloggers will insist it's the fault of the remaining white farmers who are being terrorized by Mugabe's goons.

no, its not the fault of the white farmers, per se, but of the outside reaction to mugabe's justified program of redistributing the land to the black population. the british reneged on their promise to compensate the farmers for the necessary land reform ; then, after waiting patiently for 20 yrs for the british to honor their obligations the mugabe government had no choice but to fast-track the program.
the british then spitefully boycotted zimbabwean agro products, which they had previously faithfully patronized when the agro sector had been in white hands. and they have been pulling every dirty, underhanded trick in the book to undermine the zimbabwean economy & impoverish its people. heroically, the zimbabwean people continue to resist the neo-colonialist assault.

Monopoly money.

They wish it was monopoly money. It has more value than their money. Heck, the paper used to print the money has more value than the value printed on it, except they can't eat the paper.

Oh, if there was only OIL in Zimbabwe we could invade under false pretenses, depose an evil dick-tater, be greeted as liberators and suck the country dry.

God, I love this country.
