Miley Cyrus' Vanity Fair Cover The Magazine's Best-Seller Since November's RFK Issue

Annnie Leibovitz's outrage-baiting didn't do much for Vogue, but it helped give Vanity Fair its best-selling issue of the year.

The June issue of the Condé Nast-owned glossy, featuring a controversially sexy photoshoot with Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus, sold 435,000 newsstand copies, according to ABC Rapid Report. (Condé Nast also owns Portfolio.) That's hardly a blockbuster for Vanity Fair -- its September 2005 issue, with Jennifer Aniston on the cover, sold 740,000 copies -- but it's still the strongest seller since last November. Not bad for an issue whose cover image was a 40-year-old photo of Robert F. Kennedy. The story elicited a record number of letters from Vanity Fair readers, according to WWD.

Oh Suuuure.

The popularity of that issue had NOTHING to do with RFK on the cover, the great story about his run for the nomination, with many pictures and personal insights directly from his campaign staff and wife -- and certainly had nothing to do with the fact that HRC made a huge gaffe referring to that same run, WHILE it was on the newsstands.

Personally, I'm glad VF pulled this stupid Miley stunt, if it means that more people purchased that issue, and if it means that more people had immediate access to the RFK story when HRC shoved her stilletto-heeled boot down her own not-so-virgin throat.

There is a time when a girl is still a girl, and healthy men and women will not see this photo as provocative.
This kerfuffle is about a publicity hungry stage father, trying to get a couple more years on the gravy train with his teeny-bopper daughter.....if anyone knows about fleeting fame it's Billy Ray.

Get a grip people ... this is one of the most beautiful portraits of the fragility and innocence of youth at the threshold of maturity; and as far as I'm concerned it ranks up with one of the great photo-portraits OAT.

I feel it transcends it's subject matter from the mere beauty of Ms Cyrus to the sublime, tender nature of the human species.

Molly Cyrus is a prime example of the very mundane and uninteresting people gaining ascendancy in show business these days. Where are the ilk of Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Marilyn Monroe, Sarah Vaughn and scores of others who literally lit up the stage, screen and sky with their talent and presences? These lifeless and uninspiring figures like Cyrus, the Hilton sisters and the twin gnome sisters are sad substitutes for the talent of yore.

WHY do people keep thinking the dirty version of THAT picture. I sub to VF and have for near on 20 years and the mag ran TWO photos. One of her with her father which I thought was pretty cool. A teenage girl actually close to her father as opposed to the majority of whom would rather shoot their foot off than be photographed with their father and a picture of Miley sitting on a stool having her picture taken with a bare back. Which I didn't like only because thought the photo was unattractive.

If you go to the VF site you can see more photos and the more you see the less it looks like it does. There are all kinds of people standing around and she is very protected.

Go to any beach in Florida, California, Hawaii and more and you will seen teenaged girls in far far less walking around.and no outrage among the people there or pedos running after them.
